I play a Hunter in World of Warcraft, and I do exploiting and OoB content when not progressing or doing main story content. Also, I collect Hunter pets in WoW!

I'm keeping my eyes open on ptr for it. It might be part of the ritual sites or the other things tied to it (forgot their names), but it might be part of a different story than what's available. Time will tell, and hopefully it's intended to be tamed!

It's Kai, a rare reward from the purple Stormarion Assault loot box. He's as large as he is in the screenshot because I used a Magical Pet Biscuit. Unfortunately, he is no longer this big. They nerfed him for no reason so he's small now :(

Kai is a baby ultradon from Voidstorm. He was originally very large as a battle pet, and grew to hilarious proportions with the use of a magical pet biscuit. Now, his height is much shorter.

Remember when Taivan was INCORRECTLY made small, and people voiced their disdain until he was properly big again? We need to do this for Kai. Absolutely sinful that he's been shrunk.

Some things are not what they seem until you see them for yourself. For example, here's a horse that's normally a green ghost. When tamed, it becomes a ghost with a green tint instead.

Forgot to mention that if you want to do this yourself on PTR while it still works, follow these steps;
- Start skyriding
- Hold your right mouse button
- Fly straight down (for max speed)
- Press and hold your strafe or turn keys

This allows for permanent maximum velocity flight with zero drop. You will only land or descend when you choose.

This is a harmless exploit, and it will get fixed soon, but this is the kind of exploit I'm willing to share BECAUSE it's going to be fixed on a test realm.

When flying with skyriding, I have a bad habit of holding A and D when turning, even though that doesn't do anything. So, when I opened the PTR for 12.0.5, I learned that something was... off. Very quickly.

My friend and I were in a call, and we were laughing our butts off.

Temptation is locked behind a once-per-account quest, so if you missed out, sucks to be you. It's the only hydra with that skin too. Blizzard clearly took mercy on us for that one, because many players would never have the chance to get it if it was tameable.

Why were the other ones fake?

Ultradons had one tameable example on beta, but it only lasted for about a week. The live game was up to date after multiple server restarts.

Phoenixes have always been elemental familiars, and not once have they ever been flagged tameable. Sadly.

My only hint for this is that it's a Mana Wyrm that uses the white color as one of its textures. No other color (that I've found at least) does this.

The answer is.... the Serpent! This is a reupload, but this video demonstrates how the yellow serpent has an interesting hologram-like fading animation.

Which mana wyrm does this, you may wonder? Well as I said in the alt text, it took me a long time to find. Get hunting, hunters ;).

The one with the most has the least when tamed. It truly would be a wonderful display of irony, and that's why Skorpyron must remain unchanged! Plus, I just like him because he's clearly had a bad day, and we change him from a sewer scum scorpion into a friend-sized familiar. It's rehab!

The answer will be posted later.

Four beasts seen in a Hunter's stable in World of Warcraft. One of these is a real unintended tamed pet, while the other three are not. Can you guess which one it is?

Scalehide: An Ultradon from Voidstorm. Originally fixed on the beta, this fella was actually tameable early on when the Midnight pre-release launched. Its ID was still tameable, as the live server version was not caught up to the beta version. After being tamed, all future spawns were properly untameable.

Bird of Prey: A phoenix from the updated Silvermoon City. A simple tame that could be found prior to the first server restart after the early access days started. Spawns with a spinning animation, be it from Call Pet, Dire Beast, or other pet-summoning spells.

Hydra: Temptation from the Lightforge Draenei unlock questline, taming caused the quest to be completed. Is a beast rather than elemental as well, so it does not require knowledge on taming florafaun. Despite the broken head animation, this NPC looks normal out in the world.

Serpent: A mana wyrm that looks unassuming at first. Has a unique despawn animation effect unlike others that use the same skin, but is otherwise indistinguishable from other mana wyrms of the same kind. Surprisingly, it's still tameable as of this post. The effect is not always present however, so you need to tame it multiple times before you find the unique animation effect. It took me a long time to find it.

One of these four screenshots is an unintended hunter pet. Three of them are fabricated screenshots. Can you guess which one is the unintended pet, and why it's unintended? Read the alt text for descriptions, and make your guess!

If they do fix the old ones, I hope Skorpyron is left as is. I like my stingerless boy. It's a fun little thing.

For real though, why are Ultradons not hunter pets in #WorldofWarcraft?
- NPCs keep them as pets
- They are treated as animals
- They look cool

I don't care if it's exotic or not. I want one. This battle pet is only able to tide me over so much.

Oh yeah, sure. Disregard the fact that I was logged in and talking to a friend on Battlenet. Go ahead and randomly kick me out to the authenticating screen, then put me in an unacceptably long queue.

What the fuck, Blizzard. That is not cool.

I'm sure I've made an enemy or two by posting all that over on Petopia, but if I must play the villain to keep people on the right path, then so be it. I'm not a dark knight or antihero, but just a guy risking his account to report bugs at the end of the day.

10.03.2026 04:28 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm grateful that the devs don't remove anything we've tamed when we figured out the exploits we report. They're like trophies for us; trophies that prove we helped make the game just a bit more safe. I would LOVE to share them, but the methods... they aren't what can be shared.

10.03.2026 04:28 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I know it sucks, seeing someone with something you don't have. I'm eternally salty about not getting Koosu, Murkfur Pup, and Volatile Emberspark, but unlike those three, which were just happy accidents, the things my team and I find? Those are not happy accidents.

10.03.2026 04:28 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Considering that the hammer has been dropped (not the ban hammer, just the "shut up about it" kind) over on Petopia, I'll just randomly post screenshots here of funny bugs and such. Again, I'm not sharing any exploits, fixed or not.

There have been cases where fixed stuff becomes active again.

10.03.2026 04:28 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Sometimes, Wowhead can post a good article. This is one of those times.

10.03.2026 03:34 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, N'lyeth is a fun toy, and it sucks that they STILL haven't fixed the way to get it. My friend has the quest, but can't complete it.

Fortunately, this bug that we found in Midnight let him go tame the Ivory serpent before the fix, so there was some good to come of it at least.

10.03.2026 00:58 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Why do I keep the pets hidden though, you may ask?

Frankly, it's because I get so many questions and I get tired of telling them it was part of a bug I got fixed lol. I don't mind it because it's true, but it does get tiresome. My helpers tend to not say anything though, which (likely) led to this.

10.03.2026 00:25 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The exploit was fixed during maintenance at the start of March, but I won't explain how it worked. It was stupidly complex and I needed several trusted friends to reproduce it.

Blizzard has been kind enough to let us keep the pets since it is entirely harmless.

Seeing as how I managed to accidentally let myself be caught (or one of my helpers), I might as well make it more obvious; yes, I knew a way to tame friendly NPCs. No, it does not work anymore. It was part of a much, MUCH worse exploit that I repeatedly reported during beta.

10.03.2026 00:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, all the pets I've posted pictures of recently are little teasers of things not intended. Have you seen people post about a void worm, or a baby duck? That's the kind of stuff I figure out and report asap.

So far, it's all been fixed. Shame Blizzard doesn't fix it on beta when I find it lmao.

09.03.2026 23:47 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Exploits are never as simple as "haha funny thing". They can cause serious harm to the game in the wrong hands. That is why I will never tell how things are done that I find. That goes right to a GM through a ticket, case closed.

09.03.2026 23:37 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Friendly reminder for any people who show up from Petopia because of my signature on the site;

If you see an unintended pet, the method to tame it was fixed by the time you saw it. I report everything asap after finding out how it works.

I will not explain how it worked, except to GMs in tickets.
