what content moderation does to a man
Something in the works rn and will be announced this week(?)
Don't hold me to it, I'm not the one in charge.
We're interested in helping other communities get set up in the same way we are. In team conversations we talk about it like designing a decentralized Reddit from first principles
So if you have an invested community we'd love to be the tech partners ๐. Til then we have myatproto.social et al
404 media, lever news, the markup, and hellgate nyc are some of the few publications i trust (and pay for) anymore
the moment for interoperable tools for thought is here!
When we get Blacksky-only posts, we will have the best curation tools in the entire internet
To improve transparency and hopefully reduce confusion we have added a "Backfill in progress" badge to account profiles.
The badge shows if there's a big enough difference between someones follow/post counts according to Blacksky vs. the rest of the ATmosphere (Bluesky, Microcosm, etc.)
My first op-ed got picked up by essence

SXSW is next week!
If you're in Austin be sure to attend the conversation between @rabble.nz @bridgettodd.bsky.social and our own @rude1.blacksky.team discussing how decentralization can empower creators and open opportunities for sustainable social communities

The blacksky.community web application now uses our own API servers to load posts, timelines and profiles.
When data is missing (accounts on the edges of the network, outside of our primary community, etc) we leverage @microcosm.blue
incredible work y'all congrats!!
today, we're announcing our โฌ3,8M ($4.5M) seed financing round, led by byFounders with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Antler, Thomas Dohmke (former CEO of GitHub), Avery Pennarun (CEO of Tailscale) among other incredible angels.

glad you like it! alongside organizers and activists, the hope is that eventually it enables more distributed forms of journalism and info gathering too โฆ this ecosystem seems built to support something like that
I'm reading @rishkebab.blacksky.team discussing the challenge of getting long-form consumption for activists and organisers into a feed experience. It referenced this 'highlight quote and share' feature with @leaflet.pub ... so I'm testing it out.

time to BUILD ๐ง
LOVE this vision, and how @semble.so's upcoming connections feature helps to build towards this. Open, accretive collective sensemaking FTW!! Seize the means of sensemaking!!

and a tub of lassi
โBut I think much more importantly, dreaming big is a muscle. You have to exercise it from time to time. Each time I come up with a grand vision and sink dozens to hundreds of hours into it, only to walk away unfinished, I learn a bit more about how to make a dream become real.โ @notjack.space

I think we have a chance at using atproto to build the cozy web - permissioned spaces, but semi-porous.
Lots of people wanting proof-of-human in different ways, which in many cases flips over to aggressive KYC. But I understand the motivation.
