Saw that she also wrote the score to the Ralph Fiennes Juliette Binoche account of the Odysseus myth, The Return. That film has just leapt up some places on my Must See list as a result.

Though not an adaptation of one of their books, Iβd also like to plug the Frances OβConnor βEmilyβ from 2022 with Emma Mackey which I really enjoyed.
After a quick search to remind myself which Iβd seen, I remember really liking the Cary Joji Fukunaga βJane Eyreβ with Mia Wasikowska + Michael Fassbender. Thereβs a Japanese 1988 βWuthering Heightsβ set in Medieval Japan which sounds intriguing, but which Iβve not seen.
... and TWO SHMESTIONS, perhaps?
The DfE has acted on school exclusions for trivial reasons and served notice that internal exclusion must be "a short, structured intervention with meaningful learning." Some of us have argued for years that schools too quick to exclude harm pupils.

I was put in mind today of this exchange in the @edgarwright.bsky.social film βThe Worldβs Endβ:
βYou do know that βThe 3 Musketeersβ is a fiction, right? Written by Alexandre Dumas?β
βA lot of people are saying that about the Bible today.β
βWhat, that it was written by Alexandre Dumas?β
One of the Brothers in our house here in FinistΓ¨re, a former teacher missionary in Senegal, FrΓ¨re Adolphe(!), was nicknamed βMr. Fredricksenβ by the 6th formers I took to Senegal in 2010 for his resemblance to the βUp!β character.
One film neither Simon nor Mark mentioned in relation to Jack (this time, at least) is the extraordinary Eden Lake. Jack is terrific in it, but the final sequence is up there with The Mist (which I love) as one of the all-time bleakest endings on film. E. Lake is brilliantly, gut-punchingly bleak.
Of course, The Damned United, but Iβve a real soft spot for SixtySix.

Well done, John!!
Funny how this poem by Robert Frost (1874β1963) can be reinterpreted in todayβs world and find a new relevance. π³
Sign for tonight's vigil:
Some leaders tried pretending they were dealing with a rational human being.
Didn't work!
Flattery?
Didn't work!
Appeals to respect sovereignty.
Didn't work!
Talk of morality and decency.
Didn't work!
Appeasement?
Didn't work!
Above was true in 1930s.
True again in 2026!

Back in the day, in political philosophy classes, I often presented the U.S. model of checks/balances as worthy of study by any aspiring democracy.
Now, alas, after a decade of trumpist authoritarianism, enabled by shockingly weak institutional brakes ... π«€

No snow in London so searching for snow on #BlueSky, what a treat. Reposted snow scenes from the UK! This account, @veritymilligan.bsky.social, is a dream. Have a good evening. I had better calm down and off to warm up!
The sun has set on 2025. May the coming year bring us all blessings of deep peace and shared joy, no matter what darkness we may face in our world. #2026
Lovely to be able to share my personal testimony with a group of nearly 30 lycΓ©ens (6th formers) in Brest this evening, and to help with the music for the mass that began our time together. A big thanks to Sr. ClΓ©mence and her fellow Sisters of St John for inviting me!
Trump & others - especially Europeans or people of European descent living in former European colonies in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania ... would do well to read some history before ranting about immigration and 'open borders'.
In many cases, talk of 'civilisation' masked genocide.
Trump's spiteful dig at Biden is infantile.
Furthermore, the horrendous, over-the-top, gaudy display of portraits destroys the aesthetic of that White House walkway. As bad as the fake gold bling in the Oval Office, or ridiculous oversized flagpoles, or the wanton destruction of the Rose Garden.
βThis show is not important,β Kimmel told his audience upon his return Tuesday. βWhat is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.β
β‘οΈ https://l.francemusique.fr/vry
