New signs of liberation in #SaintPaul
Reading the Legislative Update from my new state rep (64A) and it's night & day from the previous officeholder. This one was all about actual, specific, legislation and committee work! Updates from the previous elected were entirely just "Hey here are some nice people I recently visited."
You would say that
Is this with GST or with current time zones?

@clumsy-machinist.bsky.social was just telling me about monasteries that divide their day in ~3 hour blocks and adjust exactly what time it is every day at sundown
The real irony is everyone who participates believes that *their* specific area is on the okay side of the line, while in reality some people in every smaller community near by lumps them into The Big Cityβ’. I remember people who lived in the townships talking like this about my under 10k hometown

The irony that the parts of my family currently or most recently living in a small town (my parents, sis, me) having the *least* anxiety over The Big Cityβ’ while those 20min from urban downtown are convinced it's Escape From New York.
Totally. For me it's been aunts & uncles who all grew up in either <10k town or literal dairy farm. But in adulthood have mostly lived in >50k suburb of the Twin Cities while ominously inquiring if I "feel safe" living in a quiet residential area of Saint Paul.
Obviously GST would be based on the Pope's city (Chicago)
It's been wild to see these dynamics play out in my own family in my lifetime. The distinction between growing up in an actual rural or small town, vs second ring suburb with rural kitsch aesthetics on the wall.

CNNβs Frederik Pleitgen says black, oil-contaminated rain is falling over Tehran after strikes on oil facilities by U.S./Israeli airstrikes.
It's time for Global Standard Time. Just one big time zone across the planet & we all get accustomed to defining the parts of the day with different numbers. You still eat a meal called lunch in the middle of daylight hours, but the clock says 1800 hours or something.
A man who was held at an ICE detention facility in Texas before being deported to the Netherlands told the AP that he heard a guard talking about a staff betting pool on which detainee would be next to commit suicide
North Tehranβs Aqdasiyeh oil depot is ablaze tonight after it was targeted by multiple US-Israeli airstrikes. Apocalyptic scenes filmed by Iranians driving on the nearby highway. Local reporters saying firefighters canβt put it out. This depot is critical energy infrastructure for Iran.
Two men in varsity jackets, one the corduroy St. Paul jacket, walk down the street towards the Pantages theater in Downtown Minneapolis
The marquee for the Pantages Theater in Downtown Minneapolis advertises the excreable RESIST & UNSUBSCRIBE live podcast stating Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway

In @snowden.st's great piece on conspiracy theories there's a bullseye but about how conservatives love to fixate on abstract persons who can be advocated for, yet cannot ever complicate the conservatives' view by voicing a differing personal viewpoint themselves.
Not sure how exactly, yet seems relevant that it's an image of an *empty* playground evoking such weird nostalgia. The actual children are just an abstract concept.
I feel like the past 14 months I've been repeating to about 30% of people "Stop applying the rationales you're accustomed to when trying to understand why they are doing things"
