No! Our new paper in @natcomms.nature.com shows massive tabular icebergs broke off the UK in the last ice age before the UK’s ice shelves disintegrated from climate warming.

During this undergrad project, I became quite interested in the sea-level story surrounding the dinosaur tracks. This ultimately pushed me to consider glacial instability as a source of sea-level rise.

The dinosaur tracks in the Texas Hill Country are very near and dear to my heart because I worked on some for my undergraduate research (pub here: scholar.google.com/citations?vi...)
I love that I can be active in this while pursuing my PhD in Holocene glacial stability in the marine record.

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.
This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.
NSF fired 168 employees, leaving the agency less equipped to fund a wide range of scientific research.

My heart is with the amazingly dedicated folks at NSF and all of the students and researchers they fund (myself included 😢). This is so infuriating. They are trying to tear down decades of progress in a matter of days/weeks….nevermind the implications for the future of this country and planet.
A graph of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations at the Mauna Loa observatory, Hawaii, from 1958 to 4th February 2025. It shows carbon dioxide levels rising at an accelerating rate over the decades. This is known to be due to emissions of carbon dioxide from human activity, mainly fossil fuel burning but also deforestation. The first CO2 concentration value in March 1958 was 315 parts per million (ppm). The latest daily value is 426 ppm. The graph also shows a seasonal cycle of a few ppm within each year, which is known to be linked to the growing season in the northern hemisphere causing a temporary uptake of carbon in spring and summer and release in autumn. The graph is produced routinely by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego.
