5 February - Jim Davis Reaches the Chequered Flag - On This Day - Triumph Motorcycle Forum This is American racing legend, Jim Davis, who started riding motorcycles when he was 11 and earned his first factory ride, with Indian, aged 19 in 1915. He went on to win 21 AMA National Championships and more than 50 non-AMA titles; a record that will never be equalled. By the time Jim retired in 1936 he had raced in more than 1,500 events and covered 30,000 competition miles. Not only did he survive the board-track era, he survived into the 21st century, passing away in 2000 at the ripe ol...

31 January - BMW Offloads Husqvarna - On This Day - Triumph Motorcycle Forum In 2013, BMW completed the sale of Husqvarna to Pierer Industrie, owner of KTM, and later that year the whole kit and kaboodle became a subsidiary of KTM itself, which is where it stilll sits…for now. BMW apparently had aspirations of Husqvarna being their bike equvalent of the Mini. Presumably someone eventually saw sense and put the ‘for sale’ sign up at the factory.

No more German Huskies.

14 January - Pecco Day - On This Day - Triumph Motorcycle Forum Today in 1997, little Francesco Bagnaia began his journey towards the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP World Championships. Beaten last year by the exemplary performance of Jorge Martine, he was composed and generous in his post race comments despite his obvious, intense disappointment. Not just a stupendously fast rider but a gentleman in defeat. Happy Birthday, Pecco! 🎉

Italian cool is alive and well. Buon Compleanno!

9 January - A Hollow Victory - On This Day - Triumph Motorcycle Forum There’s no pleasure in talking about a manufacturer of bikes in the past tense but on this day in 2017 we had to do that for Victory Motorcycles when Polaris issued a press release saying they were going to wind down the marque. Created in 1998 to compete with Harley Davidson, it was always going to be a big ask and the writing was probably on the wall from 2011 when Polaris bought Indian.

The end of a short era but with some fine looking motorcycles along the way.
