On my new book β€˜The Edge of Ruin’ we used Swiss binding but where block was bound with cloth and not attached to cover at spine. So more traditional Swiss binding. I hope I’ve got these terms right…apologies to any binders if I’ve not!

We used open β€˜Swiss’ binding.
So sections are bound as normal, but then the block (sewn sections) is not bound with cloth or attached at the spine, so has effect of allowing pages to lay flat.
The sections that make up the block do need what printer describes as β€˜lick of glue’ to keep together.
