There seems to be a lot more focus on FAIR and open science recently, which is great to see indeed! :)

I was recently interviewed by @opensciencenl.bsky.social about my work on interoperability in the social sciences and humanities, and why it matters:

The internet is rapidly turning into a dystopian, clanker-infested Wild West
Super actueel weer dus!
www.depierson.nl is helemaal vernieuwd.
For anyone who's deposited their data at DANS; this is a great opportunity to get some more visibility and impact of your work!
Let them know in the (short!) form below and your data can be highlighted in DANS channels. And hopefully someone will find your data and do cool new stuff with it!
I will give a workshop at this event, where you can build stuff with Lego to learn about interoperability!
So if you want to learn more about the I in FAIR (or just want an excuse to play with Lego), go pre-register below β¬οΈ
A great read, as usual! :)
Wauw.
No gods, no masters, no time, no energy...?
Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".
Teken alsjeblieft!
The European Association of Archaeologists Executive has worked hard to bury this result inside a long document. But we're going to make this triumph of compassion, common sense & demand for transparency known to all. Help us by sharing. @archagainstaparth.bsky.social @blacktrowel.bsky.social

Did you know that our Data Stations support peer review of datasets before publication? With secure preview URLs (open or anonymous), reviewers can assess data quality, documentation and methods. Helping make research more transparent, reusable and trustworthy. Learn more: edu.nl/p9dwb
Fingers crossed!
Interesting to see that 38 years later, we are basically still discussing the same topics, but with new technologies.
I wonder if we're at another peak of the AI hype cycle, and another AI winter is looming....
- a workshop on standardisation; interoperability was already a big topic back then!
- the @caaint.bsky.social conference in 1987, with one of the main topics being 'expert systems', i.e. what we considered SotA Artificial Intelligence at the time, right in between the first and second AI winter
Spotted this newsletter from 1987 (before I was born!) at the @dans-knaw-nwo.bsky.social office.
Opened it on a random page, and found 2 calls for papers that perfectly aligned with my current and previous work:
Registration is now open for #CAA2026! Come join us in Vienna, 31 March - 4 April. Early bird registration closes on 25 Feb so don't miss out! 2026.caaconference.org/registration...
