Talk to text is killing me.
(Not to mention the inconvenience of the Thomas Street Bridge being closed and dead dinosaurs forcing me to walk my bike through the sculpture park.)
5:48pm 7/28/2025: taxi in Alaskan PBL in front of Anthonyβs Pier 66. @seattle.carinbikelane.com
Fwiw the Corten looks fantastic. I ride this daily. There are only a few places where itβs too short and problem. The chicanes are annoying but honestly pretty good at forcing tourists on wheels to pay attention (which is the real danger!). The aquarium hill blind curve is the worst bit.
One minute tour of the Alaskan Way protected bike infrastructure! My spouse took me home Thursday in the box bike (so cramped!) and I took the opportunity to document the trip. Canβt wait to redo this from Myrtle Edwards to the West Seattle Bridge and beyond! π
1) The Alaskan Way PBL is amazing! I may have just been dodging the closure signs and using it for a few weeks now - so happy itβs now official! 2) !$@&@!!!! the ill-timed closure of the Thomas Street Bridge makes the north end irritating for the next seven weeksβ¦. 3) OMG SDOT IS FINALLY ON BLUESKY
This guy did the DRT, but for real. www.seattlebikeblog.com/2015/08/05/g...
And dilutes the influence of the modal boards.
This seemsβ¦ bad? β¦to stray even further from βgood governanceβ π€
10:50am: Sysco truck parked in the new Alaskan Way PBL just south of Broad & the Sculpture Park. Cars wait here all the time too. π @seattle.carinbikelane.com

FAST COMPANY Article: While retirement typically occurs, after completing a career and saving and investing for it, a new trend is emerging among Gen Z career professionals called "micro-retirement." Micro- retirements involve taking a one to two- week break from work every 12 to 18 months. Gen Z is using micro-retirement to avoid burnout, find greater fulfillment in their work, and enhance their overall well-being. However, it's not just Gen-Z:
'Vacations.'
The word is 'vacations.'
During cruise season, festival season. π
Elliott Bay Connections Project is taking away this quality functional pedestrian connection to the waterfront (Thomas Street Bridge) for SEVEN weeks in the middle of the summer. Who asked for this? Thanks billionaires. π
Yeah, I think this is really geographically and site/zoning specific. The city (planning code) favors parking off alleys. Smaller projects get away with more (to make more housing easier to build) and if thereβs an existing curbcut/driveway the city usually lets a small project keep it.
I'm going to try and communicate with my Republican colleagues in a new way.
Proud of my South Park neighbors for showing up to support our community! About 150 of us stood on the bridge to declare YES TO IMMIGRANTS and #nokings. (Lots of happy honks far outnumbering the few d*ckheads.) Meanwhile 70k marched downtown π€©
Over 70,000 in Seattle raised their voices Saturday in a public rebuke of Trumpβs policies.
Looking down SW marginal Place to the beginning of the West Marginal PBL/Duwamish Trail. If the blocks moved a smidge and took away the vanβs parking spot, it would be a straight shot and fully protected to the bridge
Eco blocks! Just keeping people from parking in front of a single business!
Google satellites view of Duwamish Trail/West Marginal PBL ending with 15+ ecoblocks taking the lane where a PBL could easily continue
Can anyone explain to me why this last block of the northern end of the Duwamish Trail/West Marginal PBL isnβt also protected bike lane? What, they get like three parking spots? Move the damn (illegal?) ecoblocks three more feet and slap on some paint, amiright?
My kid takes music classes right there at Mode Music. Everything about that intersection is insane. I hope the pedestrian recovers.
The Georgetown to South Park trail is still under construction (the flume property behind the gas station wonβt open for a while) but the temporary bike lane on E Marginal Way is helping bridge the gap to the open part on Ellis Ave S. www.seattle.gov/transportati...
The Georgetown to Downtown PBLs are essentially open and go from the Airport Way bridge over the railroad tracks to the south end of the SoDo trail. see map here: www.seattle.gov/transportati...
Temporary bike lane on West Marginal
Leaving Georgetown
Temporary protection on East Marginal Way heading to South Park Bridge - it feels super comfortable!!!
N+1! We biked back to South Park with a kid on a new 19β Jamis Sequel (yay bike sale!). I am dying to load it up with rad accessories (so many eyelets!) but she just started with the cute pdx bottle cage.
Georgetown to South Park trail on S Ellis Ave! (The temporary protection on E Marginal Way was also fantastic.)
New PBL on the Airport Way Bridge π€© for Georgetown to Downtown
Nice protection on Airport Way before heading west to 6th Ave S (Georgetown to Downtown project)
We rode the Georgetown to South Park trail AND the Georgetown to Downtown trail today: they were revelatory and felt perfectly safe with the 11yo! Our destination was Mello Fellos bike shop to see if she was ready for a bigger bike.
Brilliant idea! Honestly a multi-generational space on a college campus would be great for all sorts of folks to blow off steam!
Memorial at intersection
Candlelit vigil
Rest In Peace David Hernandez. David was an employee at the Sea Mar health clinic in South Park for over 30 years. Then he was run over and killed in the crosswalk next to the clinic (14th & Henderson). The second fatality at this intersection in six months. South Park deserves safe streets for all.
SDOT recently installed βno turn on redβ restrictions at 14th Ave S and S Henderson St in April 2025 as part of its proactive safety investment strategy. Right turn on red crashes account for 9% of all collisions with people crossing the street. Past US DOT studies have indicated that 60% more pedestrians and twice as many bicyclists are hit by turning cars at intersections where people are allowed to turn during a red light. Weβre happy to answer any questions you might have about these measures, and we are also working with Elaine on an opportunity for a follow up conversation with you within the next couple weeks. Thanks, Bill
β¦ which fails to mention the role of the freight corridor, wsdot, or king county in mediating speeds SOUTH of these crash sights. It also fails to suggest any actual road redesign. I love pedestrian leading intervals, but they do nothing to force someone going 60 off an offramp to stop in time.
My neighbor Robin finally got a reply from SDOT regarding their plan for improving 14th Ave S, where two neighbors have been killed by cars in six months. Email in images from Bill LaBorde.
WOW this is political leadership!
Yes, vigil tonight. (I am laid up and canβt make it but hope thereβs a good turn out.)
