I never dreamed I'd get my music streamed on twitch, but @cakejumper.bsky.social has just shown my cursed Anglican Chants on one of her streams. Thanks so much - you have now inflicted my brand of insanity among your most delightful crowd!
I've scored my first documentary film! Entitled "Steam Locos in Profile - Locomotion", it traces the history of one of the icons of the railway age, written and presented by the inimitable Chris Eden Green.
Huge thanks are due to Chris for giving me this opportunity!

A page of Anglican Chant with the lyrics of the classic Halloween song "Spooky Scary Skeletons". The edges of the picture are out of focus, and the colour is a very cold blue.
Oh no - what horrible monster is on the horizon!? #halloween #anglicanchant #composer #singer
In the last month, I have typeset music for a large institution, had my first media music project, and added yet more movements to my setting of Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet".
Today, I started on my new commission from the Stamford Chamber Orchestra, due to be premiered in the summer of next year.
The start of a new chapter: I'm now writing music for video games! This is part 1 of my 2025 showreel, with fantasy music shown alongside game footage from Baldur's Gate 3

The Fruits of Summer are blooming and falling off the tree in the form of more concerts (including my Albert Hall Debut), new pieces, typesetting projects a-plenty, and hopefully more content to keep you guys abreast of what I am getting up to!

Smiles all around at St George's Church Hanover Square! Couldn't have asked for a better premiere with Mengyao on the piano and Sarah on the flute.
Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of performing in the premiere of my setting of Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" - I'm very grateful for the lovely reception it got from the audience, and for the playing of the fantastic flautist Sarah Marine and the perfect piano playing of Mengyao Guo!
Spring is definitely here - no better excuse to finally set Wordsworth's "I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud" to music. It flew from my head onto the page with such force that I'm a bit breathless!

A brand new piece is in the works: as Spring is now blooming around our ears, I thought I'd write a set of springtime songs for choir, and this is the first of them.
I don't know how many are going to be, but I'm very excited for chasing after poems and feeling where inspiration takes me.
My new website, www.johnsturtcomposer.co.uk, is now online! If you'd like to find out more about my music, go check it out!

My website is going dark for maintenance for a couple days, all for the good cause of redesigning and reinvigorating it. In the meantime, as it's lent for those who observe it, why not listen to my Easter Anthem "Quem Quaeris Magdalena?"

I'm pleased to announce the premiere of my commission from the Stamford Chamber Orchestra, "A Young Person's Guide to Mozart". Full of cheeky anecdotes, it traces the story of music's most lovable rogue!
Very very excited!
My first concert for a long while, seeing my sister Jenny perform the solo in Bruch's Kol Nidrai with the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra - was a fantastic performance, and I feel very proud of her!
No problem!
Go get em, guys!
