🚌 Consett bus station, late 1980s, from Julian Germain’s Steel Works, made a decade after the town's steel works closed. The new bus station roof was made with Italian steel, an irony often noted when people talk about this period.

So a book update. I was initially intending to distribute online via Amazon etc; but the amount of money that is added on for the consumer by the distribution system is ridiculous. To keep its price somewhere sensible, the book will be available from me directly & potentially some other suppliers.

For example, on immigration. Language that conveys to voters that migrants are a threat - are bad - creates a fear response that drives them into the arms of the right - no matter the policies being proposed. Yesterday's op-ed by the Home Secretary does this.

Several studies have looked at data from elections to see if "move to the right" keeps the far right from winning. Conclusion: it validates right-wing propaganda in voters' minds, repels your own voters.
