𧡠1/5 A new BioRxiv preprint reveals that membrane tension acts as a mechanical gate for lung cell fate during development! π«
Our Flipper-TR probe was key to assess live Cell Membrane Tension (CMT)
Hereβs how Flipper-TR unlocked a hidden layer of lung development & fibrosis. π #Mechanobiology
We've all been there... the kitchen needs to be cleaned otherwise I can't work on my paper π
@patrickzager.bsky.social acquired this lovely 3D timelapse of live neutrophil membrane protrusions on the snoutscope at the UCSF Center for Advanced Light Microscopy. Shown are three orthogonal maximum intensity projections.
Selling my Contax G2 (with 45m f/2) camera is boxed. Also a boxed Fujifilm X100vi and The Nikon S3 limited edition Black boxed. UK buyers only. The G2 is on eBay and the others will go on shortly unless someone here wants it. Customised Nikon F2 likely to go on list as well
Pretty crazy how important the blockade of a trade route is right now
A tomahawk missile costs the taxpayers the same amount of money as one five-year major NIH research grant. Remember that every time they tell us one of those missed the target, blew up paintings of enemy aircraft or tanks, or was the fifth and unnecessary hit on the same target.
π Consett bus station, late 1980s, from Julian Germainβs Steel Works, made a decade after the town's steel works closed. The new bus station roof was made with Italian steel, an irony often noted when people talk about this period.

Desktop of a PC, showing a digital image of a cheek cell
This week students learned to capture digital images with a microscope - in this case the sample was a cheek cell stained with methylene blue.

This next set of images shot on SWITCH AZURE comes from Brazil and was shot by @vitorlleite.

And some on Ektar.
Does anyone have suggestions of photographic/art book retailers that would maybe be interested in stocking my darkroom book?
So a book update. I was initially intending to distribute online via Amazon etc; but the amount of money that is added on for the consumer by the distribution system is ridiculous. To keep its price somewhere sensible, the book will be available from me directly & potentially some other suppliers.
Happy Birthday!
A couple of real oldies, taken on Bold Street, Liverpool. I'd need to search to find the camera and film, maybe HP5 and a Fuji GS645S.

For example, on immigration. Language that conveys to voters that migrants are a threat - are bad - creates a fear response that drives them into the arms of the right - no matter the policies being proposed. Yesterday's op-ed by the Home Secretary does this.

Several studies have looked at data from elections to see if "move to the right" keeps the far right from winning. Conclusion: it validates right-wing propaganda in voters' minds, repels your own voters.
Here is one.
