It ought to be great architecture so we don't have to change them all again when you get us into the EU and Euro. We could have things like the Tricorn Centre, the old Birmingham library, Cumbernauld shopping centre, Euston station and the Queen's building Heathrow :)

SO I was listening to the Radio 4 news an hour ago and could have sworn they said that Omid Djalili had been named as supreme leader. Please tell me it's true :)

I rather suspect that the people most loudly complaining about "family voting" in Denton are exactly those who would like to return to those days, where the "man of the house" decided such things.

Because, obviously, giving women the vote will make them feeble minded. Or something.

"Family voting". Nothing new. Not racial or cultural.

I recall in 1998 when I first started doing canvassing for my own election being quite shocked at the number of people, mostly women, who would say stuff like "Oh, I don't know, my husband/father/whatever decides that. "

Cardiac MRI tomorrow morning at some unforgivably early hour. Nothing to be worried aabout is there? Assuming I stay off the paperclips for supper tonight!

Oh my, Harriet, I don’t think any of us want to imagine what kind of a stain Mandy cast over politics!

Okay, so I watch too many US cop/law enforcement dramas, but what I just don't understand is that a second after an "officer involved shooting" they hand in their gun and badge and wait for an inquiry. It's automatic. Why not with ICE?

β€œPavements are for pedestrians, not vehicles,” says Oxfordshire County Council’s Cllr Andrew Gant as the Government introduces new rules on pavement parking where councils will be allowed to introduce and enforce a ban: β€œWe welcome the opportunity to apply for the powers to enforce this.”

Pothole News! Oxfordshire is mid-table in a new Department of Transport rating of road maintenance, scoring Amber Overall, for Condition and Wider Best Practice, and Green for Spend (meaning it spends more on Capital maintenance than it gets funded from DfT).

About the equivalent of running a microwave for one second for a median query

In a first, Google has released data on how much energy an AI prompt uses It’s the most transparent estimate yet from one of the big AI companies, and a long-awaited peek behind the curtain for researchers.

Someone had some statistic a few weeks ago comparing it to the cost of running a household on electricity for 24 hours. And I worked out that what they were saying was that *if* I ran an AI query every second all day I *might* get close to matching my household bill!

Still a lot of excess fluid to lose. And people now to see quite regularly - nephrologist, cardiac consult, practice diabetic nurse and so on. But based on only the last couple of days of glucose readings from my Abbott Libre continuous monitor, it's likely less of an uphill struggle

A more optimistic sounding day at the hospital kidney unit today.

Had my echocardiogram and they couldn't see anything abnormal.

They don't think I need a kidney biopsy yet.

Getting back to seriously managing my diabetes should help considerably and if not then they can try something different.

...as a matter of urgency. Staff amazing. I've had 3/4 doctors either deal with me directly or review my case. Half a dozen HCAs administering tests etc. A couple of nurses doing treatment. And basically not a word of judgment even if it is largely all my own indolence that has caused it.

I've had a grim week, but #OurNHS has mostly been a star (except one interaction). I've been short of breath for a few weeks. Had Covid/Flu in October but suddenly couldn't walk > 10m. GP immediately got me tests and into AAU. Not a nice diagnosis - heart or kidney failure. But now being treated.

People getting upset about baby names as if it says "Muhammeds are taking over". Looking at the top fifty boys names from this year, just over 7% are a variant of Muhammed. The other 48 names, accounting for 93% of boys, are distinctly western. Consistent with religious affiliation in 2021 census.
