A political cartoon by David Sipress, from the New Yorker: A man and a woman are walking along the street together, and the woman says, "My desire to be well-informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane."
Whenever I see Irish people being racist or xenophobic, I want to rattle their heads off a wall.
A people who were scattered to the four corners of the planet because of famine, then driven out because there was no work or money, and even now leave in waves for Australia.
Somehow anti-migrant.
Asked how Fascism starts - First they fascinate the fools. Then they muzzle the intelligent. - Bertrand Russell.

- Bertrand Russell. Not from Cork.
Did youβ¦did you not look there?! π
Love that my entire timeline on here is currently some version of OH MY FUCKING GOD (positive)
We are a f***ing class country, let it be said.
Dear President Obama, I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza." Palestinians have families, too. This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide. I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world. Love, Ms Rachel
Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing
I have so much respect for Greta Thunberg because she easily could have coasted on speaking gigs and Davos appearances for the rest of her life
Far as I can tell, Robert Redford was:
* successful at everything he tried
* genuinely intelligent & insightful
* desired by women
* envied by men
* an absolute mensch to everyone he dealt with
* a tireless, lifelong philanthropist
... and he died peacefully in his sleep.
10/10 life. No notes.
Fair play to you Philip! Sending you very best wishes as you journey to recovery. Your determination is inspiring!
One day.
In years to come, many may ask how the world watched on as the people of Gaza starved.
A blue sign nailed to a low fence on the Kennet and Avon canal in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, photographed on a sunny afternoon: Attention dog owners: Pick up after your dogs. Thank you. Attention dogs: Grrr, bark, woof.
Urgently in need of a timeline cleanse? This sign has got you covered.
"The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality."
- James Baldwin
Utterly insane that the fate of millions, even billions of living people is forever handcuffed to the whims of a handful of belligerent idiots with a God complex playing Jenga with humanity for personal gain during the blink of an eye that they're on this planet. The sheer pointlessness of it all.
A post on Threads from Miss Rachel, a well-known childrenβs educator and entertainer: βWhatβs it like for kids in Gaza?β my little boy asks me. Well, kids donβt have medical care & canβt go to the doctor like us. They donβt get to go to school like you & learn & play. They donβt have enough food or water or a safe place to live. βWhy?βπ₯Ί I feel my heart breaking. I canβt tell my son itβs some natural disaster. That thereβs not enough food or medicine in the world. Itβs that grown-ups are keeping these basic human rights away from children. Itβs a choice.
Two posts on Threads from Miss Rachel, a well-known childrenβs educator and entertainer. The first post says: βLeaders - Be so ashamed that your constituents are begging & pleading for you speak out and you stay silent. Be so ashamed that you put money & power & your career before the lives of precious children of God. Be so ashamed that our religions tell us to give to the poor, feed the hungry & open our arms to all children & you pretend that they mean only for some children.β The second post says: βCelebrities as well. If everyone says something it wonβt be controversial anymore. Itβs never been wrong to say starving and bombing kids is wrong. God help everyone have the strength to say something. Please, God.β
A post on Threads from Ms Rachel, a popular childrenβs educator and entertainer: βIf you want to be remembered for saying something about Gaza before the entire world does, now would be the time.β
Miss Rachel isnβt on Bluesky, but her posts about Gaza should be. I wish this wasnβt so unusual to see from people with big platforms.

Big fan of this very talented Limerick artist since I first heard her #QuietGiant album way back when. Used to follow her on the bad place & missed her wit & humour since I slammed that door shut. Great to see her here!
Highly recommend everyone follows & listens to @emmalangfordmusic.bsky.social
Done!
Same! π Why do we do it to ourselves every year?!?!?
David, for someone who was dropped without warning & by total chance into all things Irish, your indulgent patience with our many, MANY βcharmingβ idiosyncrasies is seriously impressive!
Beautifully put.

Fair play to RTΓ for organising a storm so that we all had to stay indoors tonight π #LateLateToyShow
Thank you!
