what does capitalism and commodification do to a work like chainsaw man? of course, it's so popular, so marketable, there's no way it can end, right?

what to do with a work that ends on a good or bad ending? you can assess whether a movie is a good movie or a bad movie by seeing it through to the end. but what about a work that doesn't actually end? it just loops?

in a way, the final chapter of CSM ending with "denji has a happier life without pochita" or "denji dies in the shack without pochita" -- well, both of those are endings. one nicer, one more brutal. but they're conclusions to denji's life. it's a "death". but now there is no death

we've been talking about how Chainsaw Man (the work) is meta-narratively made endless (in wanting to endlessly tell the story) by way of how Chainsaw Man (the figure) cannot die, and so, what about a work that doesn't have an ending at all?

i don't yet think the final chapter of csm will be a loop because it could very well just "AU where denji doesn't meet pochita" [either he lives or he dies in this AU] but i think turning part 2 into a loop that ends at the start of part 1 is a specific choice that deliberately prevents "an ending"

you can't even say "kill tatsuki fujimoto anymore" because he can't even die. this meme foreshadowed the possibility of the eternal loop and the "world beyond death"

this won't happen but if fujimoto somehow managed to convince the publishers to pull some shit like this it would be a world-historic accomplishment in manga as a medium. self deletion of the work and leaving just a oneshot of the kind fujimoto is known for

what if chainsaw man's final chapter releases and then a day later viz and jump+ take the manga off the site with the exception of the final chapter being a standalone oneshot.

csm part 2 final chapter just ending it straight there with the message "the archetypical shounen action manga that Chainsaw Man becomes reduced to has its female leads inescapably turned into sex objects and its male leads inescapably protagonized into weapons" is certainly commentary

fujimoto traps denji in a cycle of samsara forever to be weaponized as a commentary on the infinite cycle of weaponization of children by the state and family and the inescapability of being the "Shounen Protagonist" then immediately releases Kobeni! Ch. 1 a slice of life OL yuri manga
