#LunchtimeLP Jazz drummer Roy Haynes was born 101 years ago today. Out of the Afternoon by his quartet featuring Roland Kirk, Tommy Flanagan, and Henry Grimes was recorded in 1962 by Rudy Van Gelder for Impulse records. This is a truly superb record, especially if you love jazz drumming. #jazzsky

#LunchtimeLP Miles Davis's sketches of Spain was recorded on this date in 1960. Featuring Davis is a mournful trumpet over Gil Evans lush arrangements, this is one of my favorites. I fell in love with it upon first hearing. #jazzsky

Music 🎶 for the cocktail 🍸 hour: Reflections, Steve Lacy Plays Thelonious Monk was released on Prestige in 1959. It features Mal Waldron, Buell Neidlinger and Elvin Jones. Reportedly this was the first album devoted entirely to Monk's music recorded by another artist. It is highly digable. #jazzsky

#LunchtimeLP Gábor Szabó was born 90 years ago today in Budapest, Hungary. He is one of my favorite jazz guitarists. Charles Lloyd's Live at Slug's was accorded in 1965 with Charles Lloyd on tenor, Gábor Szabó on guitar, Ron Carter on basels, and Pete La Roca on drums. #jazzsky #jazzmusic

#LunchtimeLP Jazz guitarist West Montgomery was born 103 years ago today. Beginnings is a compilation two-fer recording by Blue Note Records as part of their re-issue series released in 1975. It contained music from sessions recorded in 1957, 1958 and 1959. #jazzsky

#LunchtimeLP Guitarist guitarist Ralph Towner who just passed away in January was born on this date in 1940. His album Solo Concert was released in 1980 on ECM. It has him on both 12 string in classical guitars. He was a monster player and the sound quality of this recording is excellent. #jazzsky

Latin percussionist and Jazz drummer Willie Bobo was born on this date in 1934 he plays drums and timbales on one of my favorite albums Inventions and Dimensions by Herbie Hancock with Paul Chambers and Osvaldo "Chihuahua" Martinez. It's intriguing minimalist modal Jazz with Latin rhythm. #jazzsky
