Quite apart from the (horrifying) content of this story, what the Hell is this flag flying alongside the Stars and Stripes and the POW flag? #vexillology

Not really "new", though: they are finally implementing the design granted to the City by the Chief Herald of Canada in (checks notes) 2008: www.gg.ca/en/heraldry/...

North Grenville Historical Society: An Arm & A Leg. Forrest Pass tells the story of a Kemptville furniture maker who rose to become an inventor and manufacturer of artificial limbs after the US Civil War. March 11, 2026, 7pm, 148 Prescott Street, Kemptville, Ontario.
This Wed, March 11, I'll be giving a talk to the North Grenville Historical Socty about John Condell, a cabinet maker who patented Canada's first artificial leg in 1855 and later made limbs for US Civil War amputees. If you're in Kemptville, ON, or environs, it'd be great to see you! #cdnhist

And even more #iwd #vexillology (a plug for the work of Annie Platoff, one of the greats!)
Especially love this for the discussion of Friendly Society banners (combining two of my arcane interests, #vexillology and #fraternalism - or sororialism?)
He's sweet as custard
'Cuz he always cuts the mustard:

Ha! In fairness, we did go to the philatelic counter at the General Post Office in George Town for my stamp-collecting ten-year-old 😉 (I can't take credit for the postman line - borrowed from the detective Charlie Chan! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie...)
Admittedly, security is a bit tighter at Rideau Hall (and the residence shielded a bit more from public view!)
Meanwhile, a curator on vacation asks his traveling companion to pull over to snap this sign! #glams #archives
A postman on vacation takes a long walk, and a vexillologist on vacation snaps photos of flags he doesn't see at home." Like the flag of the Governor of the Cayman Islands. Just as Rideau Hall in Ottawa has a public skating rink, Govt House in George Town has a public beach! #vexillology

Hot tip: if you're looking for Antifa in the federal public service, look no further than DND's Directorate of Public Information, producers of this disgracefully unbalanced Antifa poster. Thank your for your attention to this matter!

Rooting out Antifa in the Canadian Forces, you say? Good luck with that: there's something of an Antifa tradition there... #cdnpoli #cdnhist

Modest proposal for @mark-carney.bsky.social:
1. Invite the US women's hockey team to Ottawa
2. Dinner at Rideau Hall (much better than warmed-over White House burgers)
3. Make them hon. citizens
4. Declare the "South Canada" won gold.

I had EXACTLY the same thought!
Quite the entry sign, @benbradleyca.bsky.social and @jmcelroy.bsky.social!

I used to live a few blocks from that "hotel" - if those walls could talk...😬
The Dept of National Revenue seldom revealed why it had chosen to ban a book or magazine. They also interpreted "sedition" to include "atheism" and "obscenity" to include "birth control." More in my 2021 post on the @library-archives.canada.ca blog! thediscoverblog.com/2021/02/25/d...

Found a bit of Vancouver history in an Ottawa thrift store this weekend. Internet sleuthing tells me that New Chungking Chop Suey at Pender and Main burned in 1963. It was well known for serving "cold tea" after the bars closed. Ad from Chinese Times, Sept 21, 1963. #bchist #cdnhist #foodhistory

I'll report back when I've tried it in an Old Fashioned (with lemongrass bitters from Perth to keep it a 613 affair!)
It's called Stratford Fox Run, which is confusing because the distillery is in Kanata!
