How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
This very straight news piece buried deep within the FT never uses words like corruption or insider dealing but every detail is quietly devastating. Why is the FT virtually alone in the UK media in covering this important story?
Heartbreaking. Like this too...
At the Open University we used to receive Commonwealth Scholarships for up to 20 students in east Africa to study the MSc in Environmental Management; this year just 5; as climate change hits the most vulnerable..
Can you imagine any scenario in which this would be feasible today in the UK?! Even if there was good infrastructure the whole way, there's no way all the parents would agree to it due to "concerns" and half the kids wouldn't be physically fit enough.
☀️ Climate change is a real and dangerous threat to our prosperity and our safety. We must take immediate and coordinated action.
Those areas most affected and usually the poorest and least able to adapt.
They had an election in which this was the central issue. The candidates who said they favored the scheme won by significant margins. Then Council stalled and have now called it off. And pedestrians and cyclists will pay the price.
"Catastrophic failure of leadership" is exactly what this is.

As an IR professor, it's depressing that this is outperforming all others as the best theory of US foreign policy
1/ After examining Epstein's corpse, Baden was convinced he died by homicide.
Baden said he has never seen 3 fractures in a suicidal hanging as a medical examiner for 25 yrs, nor while serving for decades as NY state commission that oversees prison deaths.

"Jews don't belong in American society."
Imagine a sitting member of Congress tweeting that. You can't. Thankfully, it'd never happen. And *if* it did, it'd be the end of their career and the biggest story in America.
But Ogles can say this about Muslims without any censure.
Post by Jason (user name LongWall26): "Confident in my ability to properly tennis, I take the court. I smile at my opponent. Serena does not return the gesture. She'd be prettier if she did, I think. She serves. The ball passes cleanly through my skull, killing me instantly." In response to survey results posted on YouGov account: "One in eight men (12%) say they could win a point in a game of tennis against 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams." For International Women's Day, I need do no more than repost this banger by @longwall26.bsky.social.
A water desalination plant is presumptively a civilian object & it is an object indispensable to survival.
Targeting a civilian object is a war crime.
Targeting an object indispensable to survival can implicate the starvation war crime.

Genuine questions: could these people be in the pay of the regime? And would that, to use language some of them favour, make them both ‘economic migrants’ *and* ‘welfare scroungers’?
We need safe and legal routes for refugees.
George Monbiot explains what’s often missing in the debate about asylum seekers and refugees: "My worry is that we end up talking about what's good for us and forget about what's good for people."

In case you didn’t know, the new ‘bravery’ is cheering on an eighty year-old, six-time Vietnam draft dodger who is using other people’s money to drop explosives on school children from bombers 40,000 feet in the air.
Anyone opposed to this kind of heroism is a ‘sucker’, ‘loser’, and ‘coward’ now.
This should be a bright, blinking light catching everyone’s attention.
