Quarry sues environmental activist who lodged planning objections against it
Company owner claims defamation and wants An Garda SiochΓ‘na to hand over activistβs complaints
Very concerning issue here. If someone's criminal complaint regarding fears for their safety can be disclosed and used against them in a civil trial then it follows that people will be more hesitant to report to GardaΓ

www.rte.ie/news/ireland...
Eirgrid looking at crucial emergency back ups for an overloaded system as data centres now require over 20% of Ireland's electricity.
As we go into the 2030's, data centres are expected to be sucking up A THIRD of Ireland's total electricity.

We here at Save Our Sprat want to stop the indiscriminate fishing of Sprat in Bantry Bay to ensure its future as a key link in the food chain on which our marine life and the people around the Bay are dependent on.
Industrial scale trawling threatens the complete collapse of sprat populations on which the incredibly rich marine ecosystem of Bantry Bay depends.
SAVE OUR SPRAT is campaigning for a moratorium on all such activity until the species recovers.

Ireland on a journey from solid fuel to clean and green
Patrick Bresnihan, Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Maynooth University, reflects on Ireland's ongoing evolution towards renewable energy
Short piece on Ireland's historic energy transition.
'At a time when Ireland is doubling down on its dependence on US fossil fuels with Shannon LNG, we should remember our historic struggle for energy sovereignty against Western imperial powers.'

Seas off Cork a 'marine desert' due to overfishing of sprat, says owner of whale-watching business
Skipper Colin Barnes said the whales have left his search area of ocean off Cork because the sprat they feed on has been fished to near extinction
"Seas off Cork a 'marine desert' due to overfishing of sprat, says owner of whale-watching business."
Sprat, the basis of entire ecosystems, is being hoovered out to turn into fishmeal, an *insanely* wasteful process.
Who or what gives them the right???

Ryanair quietly drops carbon offset option for passengersΒ on its flights
Carbon calculator for flight emissions also withdrawn as airline says βthere was very little interest or uptake from passengersβ
As Ryanair drops its carbon offset option on its flights due to a lack of uptake, it's important to remember that trying to buy our way out of the crisis is not the meaningful radical change that we need.

Shocking rise in power consumption in just a few very recent years by big tech is indicative of the serious problem of data centres and their exponential growth. Buying carbon offsets is plugging a dam with your finger.
