If the move off Calibri was to another sans serif font option, I would be elated. But that would have taken consideration and care. They would’ve had to weigh the universality of Noto against the ubiquity of Arial. Open Sans vs Roboto, Lato vs Libre… 7/?
Worse, if you don’t put legibility and accessibility at the front of the line, you risk your audience not being able to read what you wrote.

When it comes to typography choices, there really is a lot to think about. Does it convey timeliness or trendiness? Urgency? Fun? Professionalism? Nostalgia? If you don’t think about it and just choose things at random, you risk saying things you didn’t mean to. 5/?
That said, it was past time to move our defaults to sans serif. The choices we make with typography matter. Accessibility matters. Visual communication matters. And there are hundreds if not thousands of options to get bogged down in and angles to consider. 4/?
This font feels like nerf foam. It feels like toddler proofing coffee table corners. It makes me feel like you don’t think I can be trusted with sharps. I really, REALLY hate Calibri for anything serious. 3/?
I hate the quasi roundness of the corners. I don’t like the angles of any of the bpdq letters. I don’t think a sans serif should have a double story g or dropped numbers. There’s no excuse for l/I confusion in a sans serif this rounded. Give l a tail you bastards 2/?
Ok so here’s the thing. I am a Calibri hater. I think it was a terrible pick for the Microsoft default and they did too because look how quickly they switched off to Aptos. I have good reasons not to like it as a serious business font choice 1/?
