It’s funny, but not funny, because if you spend just about anytime working in electoral politics, you’ll see this dynamic play out time and time again.

Nazi tattoos, stereotypes about Black people tipping, and rape apologia are things people just do in their minds. Jewish people, Black people, and women aren’t *actually* subject to literal treatment due to broad agreement or indifference when they voice these things in their worldview.
In this construct, “redemption” means “give a guy a break and shut up.” They don’t believe anything he’s done has actually harmed anyone or anything, so if anything, they’re upset anyone asks them to address it.
