once you get through the initial setup and actually join a grand company, the game gets better, but not by much, since you have a mount.

the only hugely negative part after that is the whole costa del sol arc. you can turn off your brain when you get to that point.

also, i think okayish is being very generous to ARR. it is actively bad and if not for friends and partner, i would not have gotten through it.

honestly the mount thing is the biggest one. even if the mount is half speed, just having a mount as a 'go faster' button would be enough to keep players engaged so that it doesn't feel like as much of a slog for the earliest parts of the story.

literally those three would bring it up from 3.5/10 to a 6.5/10, which is easy enough to recommend considering how much better the other expansions seem to be

tbh the only things they need to do are

1) introduce mounts and fast mount speed waayyyyyyyyy earlier
2) nuke the arc of costa del sol from the questline and just go "aight you good we good we go kill primal now yes"
3) set the expectation that this is a long (30h+) MSQ and telegraph breaks better.
