ALSO god like the whole point of carbon steels is that they make sense in a restaurant. They keep their edge for a long time and they're easy to sharpen. thats helpful when you are using a knife for 40 hours a week and sharpen it at least once a week. it makes ZERO SENSE to own one in the home imo

now that fancy chef life is behind me, my favorite knife to use at home is a Takayuki TUS I got for much cheaper than they are now and a Chinese chefs knife I got like 30 bucks. Find a knife that brings you joy

also shoutout to all the Chinese chefs using $20 Chinese chef knives/cleavers that would put a michelin chef with a thousand dollar petty knife to shame

Just gonna say it: the naked over-reliance on AI to "polish up" human communication has made me so incredibly skeptical of human communication as of late.
I'm so tired of "smoothed out" emails, papers, abstracts, and notes. =/

Do you have an estimate of when full manuscripts would be due? Very interested, but also in the throes of finishing my dissertation.

Megan Giddings' Lakewood is the only book to actually give me nightmares. It's a wonderful psychological horror about the ways the medical industry and the government have abused Black people in the US.

Again, to every videogame writer who wrote funny emails to read in an immersive sim/etc. where I rolled my eyes and said out loud, "lol like anyone would ever email something this on the nose", again, sorry, I was wrong, life sucks, you nailed it

The log lady from Twin Peaks facing the camera. She is a woman wearing a heavy sweater and glasses. She clutches a log in her arms protectively. She is saying, βone day, the sadness will end.β
Director David Lynch from one of his daily weather report videos. He is turning to a window, looking outside and saying, βbut I donβt think todayβs the day.β

The cover of Kathleen Stewart's Ordinary Affects. It is a white cover with a black and white image of three children in a suburban yard watching a tree burn.
On the other end I don't love the font but the cleanliness of Ordinary Affects is really nice

FINALLY if you are an org who's like "oh masking as a con is impossible" you're wrong. Everyone masked, there were hepa filters everywhere, people tested before coming. i'm sure it wasn't easy or perfect but the priority meant I knew that qgcon and other attendees cared about a collective safety

at qgcon it was the opposite. i tried to stay far away while people were playing. I shared empathetic stares and shrugs afterward, we didn't need a conversation to know it was a shared experience. so I defaulted to giving the player space instead of being compelled (or asked) to explain myself
