I often think about this letter to the New Statesman.
It's from a 1960s Tory, and neatly summarises how British politics has shifted massively to the right, and taken Starmer's Labour party with it.

If you're heading out to a protest, there are a number of concepts to keep in mind to keep yourselfβand your dataβsafe. ssd.eff.org/module/atte...
Average Sunday show interview:
OFFICIAL: we are going to dip enemies of the state into acid vats
HOST: how will you pay for it?
OFFICIAL: tariffs
HOST: critics say tariffs don't generate acid vat money
OFFICIAL: tariffs have generated more money than has ever existed
HOST: thank u for ur time
Greenland crisis means we're going to be talking a lot more about what a breach with the US would involve in practice & this is worth reading on the granular bits
Probably quite a few MAGA would take swapping California for Greenland
Apparel Studio - Brexit cut our earnings in half almost overnight, then leaving the Single Market locked in the damage through tariffs that wrecked our margins. We were pushed into moving manufacturing abroad just to survive, which harmed quality and left us paying extra costs week after week. Businesses like ours cannot 'move on' when the penalties keep landing in real time. Access to the Single Market and the Customs Union would let us trade normally again and start rebuilding.
Access to the custom union and single market would save small businesses across the UK, like Apparel Studio. If we want to undo the damage to our economy, we need to undo the actions that caused them.
At the rate they're going, they'll be withdrawing from these "woke" activities soon π
Imagine:
A driver shot while driving away from a protest, after shooting some liberal protestors. His AR15 on the back seat, out of reach.
Imagine the MAGA response.
They'd know chapter and verse of how LE is allowed to engage moving vehicles, that's for sure.
Russia is killing Ukrainians every day: burying us under the rubble of our homes, killing us on our streets, burning us alive in our cars. In offices, cafes, churches, kindergartens, and hospitals. Every day. All the time.
It happens so often, it doesnβt even make the news anymore.
At a time when billionaires and oligarchs own the majority of our press, when local journalism is in decline, and social media is rife with misinformation and abuse, there has never been a greater need for citizen journalism
Who funds us? No one...except you. Become a friends of Bylines supporter:
my latest
2016 Daily Mail: We want foreigners out! We donβt care if it makes us poorer. Brexit means Brexit!
2025 Daily Mail: Foreigners are leaving Starmerβs Britain because this country is poor and shit!
This country would be so much better off without this hypocritical, incendiary, irresponsible rag.
Black Sea blackout: Russia launched one of the largest bombardments of Odesaβs civilian infrastructure of the entire war overnight, plunging the Ukrainian Black Sea port city into darkness
"Again and again, it [the ruling] scorches the Trump administrationβs βextraordinaryβ and βtroublingβ handling of this whole case, suggesting itβs been utterly lawless and rife with malicious abuses of power."
On the hellsite it's a sight to behold how my "for you" feed is suddenly RAMMED with people I don't follow basically complaining that Mark Rutte is wrong to declare war on Russia and we're all gonna die in a nuclear exchange now.
Christ it's never so transparently been a propaganda tool.
Every legal story now is either
Ancient Circuit Judge Delivers Crystal Clear 100 Page Rebuke To Trumpist Overreach
or
In Unsigned Shadow Docket Decision, 6-3 Majority Declares Trump Can Hunt People For Sport
Why does it keep getting weird
New analysis shows:
That there are now more people alive in the UK that voted Remain in 2016 than those who voted Leave in 2016.
The "will of the people" expressed by direct vote in 2016... has changed.
Theyβre not hiding the brutality anymore.
They want you to see it.
They want you to get used to it.π

The calls from America this weekend to "abolish the EU" are for one simple reason: the EU is the only thing that can keep European nation-states from becoming Russian or American vassals.
Literally a week ago Musk said that falsely labeling people as Nazis "should be treated as incitement to murder." And here he is (falsely) labeling the EU as Nazis.
Trump is a threat to Europe.
War crime? There's no war here, so it's just plain "crime". π

ποΈ Today is #SmallBusinessSaturday.
The Green Party backs small business.
Local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. We want to see them thrive.
Letβs green business, improve employee welfare and make it easier for people to shop local #ShopLocal
I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.
They're not hiding it, folksβstraight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.
This is who MAGA is now.
βThe state needs to be prepared...this is no longer a cold war - itβs an actual war that is being waged against Europe, against democracy.β
