I think supporting polls will be too hard, so I'm declaring this feature complete [β¦]
Trans adults in Kansas are in peril but theyβre adults. They usually have options. They can and probably will just break the likely unconstitutional law. Trans children in conservative counties in California now face the possibility of mandated outing thanks to the supreme court. Which of course [β¦]
Just got my new driver's license with my gender marker updated to X today, on my birthday, right in time before having to go on a flight tomorrow (I would have had to use my passport for said domestic flight if it arrived even a day later).
The US is such a ridiculously heterogeneous country [β¦]
Warmongers always want us to believe these two things simultaneously somehow:
1) The enemy is fanatical and irrational
2) The enemy will surrender and the war will be over swiftly when they clearly see what they're up against
@tychotithonus sounds too much like "you're killing my vibe" but I guess now that everyone's heard of vibecoding, they'll know what this means
Lately, I've been noticing it happening quite frequently where young men (probably 20s) are grocery shopping together and nerding out about cuisine. Just yesterday, a guy with lots of tattoos was talking about the best way to make pasta while he and his friend were trying to decide which shape [β¦]
Useless platitudes:
"It is what it is"
"God works in mysterious ways"
"Thoughts and prayers"
"Believe in yourself!"

"Dwarf planets aren't planets" is an absolutely unhinged position for the IAU to take. "Dwarf" is an adjective! I think that decision subtly encouraged TERFism among elites.
@SteveFoerster @zerodogg Iβve weirdly gotten out of a lot of trouble by being broke/thrifty or lazy. I think fomo is making people reckless.
@zerodogg I hate that the conclusion people jump to from "I'm not sure" is "I'll just go ahead and do the thing that may or may not be bad until I'm sure" instead of erring on the side of not doing the thing.
@JessTheUnstill me, pointing to where in the mafia honor code I printed out that the mafioso in the process of murdering me is in violation of it.
@gwensnyder.bsky.social The Platner stans are tiring. Does he think that Stephen Miller being in the white house precludes it having antisemites in it? lmfao
Ollie North's mugshot from his arrest related to the Iran-Contra Affair
Ollie North on Fox "news", a few decades after Iran-Contra
The guy on the left was a US Marine Lt. Colonel who was arrested and convicted for selling missiles to Iran.
The guy on the right is a Fox "news" *snicker* "military analyst" who says Iran shouldn't have missiles.
They're the same guy.
@dalias imagine if someone working for a company did this but to proprietary code. My worry from the jump has been that it becomes a murky area where we have expansive definition of fair use for me (big corp.), narrow definition for thee (oss dev).
A few years ago I designed a way to detect bit-flips in Firefox crash reports and last year we deployed an actual memory tester that runs on user machines after the browser crashes. Today I was looking at the data that comes out of these tests and now I'm 100% positive that the heuristic is [β¦]
I truly believe all of this, the boomers refusing to leave, the long 90s, and Trumpβs presidency, is a reaction to the civil rights movement. Some collection of things tipped the scales in freedomβs favor and they have been attempting to pump the breaks for decades.

I got into dev via making websites in my late teens and it was easy to get into that because the browser had an html editor built into it! I could just edit pages using Netscape Gold. There are lots of great tools for editing websites [β¦]
The image shows a Washington Post article. The headline reads **"Anthropic's AI tool Claude central to U.S. campaign in Iran, amid a bitter feud"**, with a subheadline describing advanced AI technology identifying and prioritizing targets in support of U.S. and Israeli military operations. The article is dated today at 5:00 a.m. EST and has a 6-minute read time. Below the headline is a photograph of a smoky, hazy sky over a city skyline at dusk or dawn, with the caption noting it shows smoke rising over Tehran after an explosion amid U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. The byline credits Tara Copp, Elizabeth Dwoskin, and Ian Duncan.
Bad news for anthropic stans: your fav tech company is doing target selection for illegal US/Israeli imperial wars.

Any trans people do relatively high dose (monotherapy) just using gel? I want to switch to gel but it seems that 0.2mg isn't generally done? I have my own reasons for not wanting to do injections or pills (I've been doing patches). I wish I could just have them reprogram my gonads.

The answer to problems in sociotechnical systems is not always "more software", "better software" or "open source software".
A lot of the time the best solution is _less software_ and sometimes even _no software_.
@normative.bsky.social ideological evaporative cooling effect.
I have a sneaking sense that weβre going to see the end of personal computers as we know it and that, for anyone who values freedom, keeping old devices functional will become increasingly valuable and also impossible.
Gender affirmation is important for most trans people (and many cis people too!) but itβs a bad first assumption for understanding why the assaults on trans rights are so dangerous. Bathrooms have nothing to do with affirmation. IDs have practically nothing to do with affirmation. The issue is [β¦]

And all of this feels like it's for nought when the entity that steals my money uses that money to murder people. It will look increasingly like opposition to morality police is one and the same with supporting Israel and children being bombed. Even if you think in terms of more optimistic [β¦]
So I have to be super careful about not lending any plausibility to the latter absurdity. That means not flaunting being myself in literal eyesight of people who aren't allowed to on their own turf. And doing my damnedest to prevent others from doing the same. Attacking homonationalism and [β¦]
Reactionaries all around the world present a false lack of choice - you let the outsiders take your freedom away or you let us, the ultraconservatives you know, take your freedom away. In the global north, the former takes the form of absurd fantasies of the reverse victimization. But in the [β¦]
