And look at how we support students who make rational decisions (ethics, environment, deskilling etc) for wanting to avoid AI usage, we’ve seen this in areas like creative subjects, philosophy, environmental sciences etc - more so than say business & engineering #LTHEchat

#LTHEchat - I think that the AIAS scale is probably more useful for saying “I’d advise AI in this way because …. “ - rather than using it as “You must / you can’t “ in this assessment

A1 - the other big challenge we have, as subject matter experts (or even vaguely knowledgeable!) it’s hard to remember back to not knowing it, and (in many cases) an inexpert learner. Our short cuts were Letts Study Guides. A1 is a shortcut, but one that hides gaps (like snow bridges over crevasses)
A1 #LTHEchat I think as well as what we care about- it’s encouraging students to think about what they want to care about (and need to care about)

I think the environmental issues are useful to discuss, yes training takes a lot, but streaming Netflix etc also does. We need to be mindful of all digital environmental issues. Ethical issues such as copyright, bias etc are more specific in AI context than other scenarios.
That’s what gets Ed & Learning techs a bad rep :(
To me, I’m an Educator first & foremost, technologist 2nd. So, AI, useful to generate *potential* m/c questions to help students untangle a complex paper, or similar for an open question in a discussion board. Not the exam or formal coursework

A list of all the news sections and subsections on the The Guardian News paper. They used to have an Education section (I think it was Family & Education). It's no longer there.
Why has @theguardian.com stopped having a dedicated Education section. One that I'm sure used to have school / University subsections.

I can’t actually remember learning to ride my bike, but it clearly involved bruised knees, scrapes & figuring out what to do to not fall off. I do remember learning to wear a t-shirt (not no top) after falling off into the nettles one very hot day as I was figuring out the balancing stuff!
I also think there are huge diffs between personal reflection (which could even be “ thank goodness I never have to do that again”), reflection with peers, and reflection for assessment which is what many HEIs mean by reflection & many students don’t like
I think some areas just don’t call it “reflection”. For example in software engineering, you’d be asking did it perform as expected? What about edge cases? Could it be done more efficiently? It’s just not called reflection
Agree, can also highlight reflection for self, reflection with trusted peers, reflection for assessment … all start the same, may well emphasise different aspects
I think one of the potential dangers of that is *every* teacher getting students to do that. Doing it at the start to then help students understand the importance of doing it if using AI; maybe some will decide that working with original texts is actually more efficient (for them)
A2 it's hard to recognise your own assumptions and biases. Students might think whatever is written as absolutely true. #LTHEchat
Primary school children are excellent at philosophy as they won't stop asking 'why'? It's a shame that education tries to knock that out of them (and, of course, we know why the state might want to do that). #LTHEChat
