Ahhhh, books! I’ve definitely got that one covered. I’m way behind my typical yearly pace.
But seriously, though… I spent 15 years in Tech and genuinely don’t have an answer to that question…
It’s my first summer as a teacher and it feels *so* weird.

At Creative Jam, teens built games, murals, music, movies—even a DIY smart treadmill & a scavenger-hunt wearable that shocks you if you're too slow to find and scan an item.
Teens are *wildly* capable when given space to create.

I decided to teach the TCP/IP model in an… unconventional way, today.
Instead of a standard computer-facing lecture, I thought I'd move the lesson outside and have the students adopt the roles of each layer themselves.
It was a blast! I can't wait to do it again next year.

Making it work has required a lot of sacrifice from my wife and kids, but I’m really glad I took the leap as well!
I just think it’s a shame that “sacrifice” seems to be a required qualification to become an educator in fields as lucrative (and critical) as software development and cybersecurity.

I have them matching up descriptions and protocols with the appropriate OSI layer (i.e. TCP with Transport).
It seems counterintuitive, but the more I break them away from the computers, the better they seem to internalize the concepts.
I took over a high school CS program thats literally decades old. I feel really lucky to have the space and resources that I do!
