βBut, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the Strait of Hormuz is open and people are having a wonderful time.β
Not even the Nazis expressly announced they were committing war crimes. Indeed, at Nuremberg war crimes were denied.
But here, openly, the US Secretary for Defense is explicitly admitting to committing war crimes.

Parliament wasn't consulted - and polling shows huge numbers oppose it.
When do MPs get a say over our involvement in this war?

If I was Maya Forstater, and I had dedicated my life to decimating the rights trans people have in this country by claiming they pose some kind of safety threat to women, I probably wouldnβt pay money to be surrounded by a group I claim to be so frightened of and that pose an inherent safety risk.
βSheβs the exception, I am the rule.β
Such articulate cutting through of the nonsense around puberty blockers and eg Keira Bellβs detransitioning from Stephanie Lynnette on GMB this morning. It is also a refreshing relief to see a trans person actually being allowed to speak for once!
In just the last 24 hours, Iran has successfully attacked:
3 cargo ships in the strait of Hormuz
3 fuel tankers in Iraqi waters
Bahrain at Ma'ameer oil facility
Oman fuel tanks at Salalah port
US base at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait
They show no signs of slowing down, they're escalating.

Iran made it explicitly clear that any country that allows attacks to start from its territory is an enemy.
The US's Middle Eastern allies already suffered the consequences.
This isn't some unknown unknown.
Even if they're not British planes doing the fighting, Starmer still put us all in danger.
Just killed a man's whole family and accidentally installed him as leader of Iran. We created Super Vengeance Boy and are just assuming he'll leave us alone.
A reminder that Nigel Farage, Kemi Badenoch and the entire Conservative-supporting press have spent the past week lambasting Keir Starmer for not joining the Iran war.
Here's what has happened since then to public opinion
Israel and the US appear to want to do to Tehran what they have done to Gaza: reduce a busy and complex society to a toxic wasteland.
Someone on here yesterday pointed out that you can tell they didnβt see any of this coming because they would have done insider trades on the oil futures market if they had.

love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region
This is no longer about saving the corner building. It's lost. All the SFRS can do is try to prevent what would be a catastrophic spread to Glasgow Central Station.

I don't know how to clip a segment (sorry), but the bit I really want you to watch starts at 29'10". It's about the deep roots of the attack on Iran and why it's just as well Starmer is "no Winston Churchill". I'm surprised this aspect isn't more widely discussed. π§΅

"The further away we are from this war the better off we will be."
This article was amended on 5 March 2026. An earlier version said low-skilled workers would βreceive immediate access to welfare and social housingβ if Labour did not make them wait longer to apply for settlement. In fact, settlement status only gives people the eligibility to apply for welfare and social housing, it does not give them instant or automatic access to such benefits. This has been clarified. From breaking news to huge investigative proje
Guardian has now [after my complaint] corrected Mahmood's deliberate & incendiary false claim settlement gives immigrants "immediate access to welfare and social housing".
Good for Gdn but embarrassing/shameful that Home Secretary deliberately misled the public for political gain like this.
Dear Shabana, I notice today that you referred to me in your speech on immigration at the IPPR think tank. You said: βA party leader should not be on the beaches of France encouraging people to make a perilous crossing on small boats.β I suppose I shouldnβt be surprised especially after the hateful Labour campaign in Gorton and Denton, but this is just the latest in a string of lies peddled by a discredited Government who intentionally fan the flames of racism and division. When I went to Calais, I was not there to encourage people to travel to the UK. I was there to see at first hand the suffering your Government and successive Governments have done in demonising migrants in a pathetic bid to pander to the base instincts of Reform and the flawed strategy of Morgan McSweeney. As you will know, if you even bothered to research my visit instead of taking Reform talking points, I was there to witness the brutality of families living in tents in freezing temperatures. I filled water tanks and picked up litter. What that visit did do is confirm my belief that if we are to smash the boat gangs and stop the boats, we need to offer safer and managed routes for migrants to come to this country. Showing compassion as a politician is not a crime. In fact, we need to see much more of it. It reminded me of a young MP who in October 2015 spent three days in Lesbos helping migrants fleeing war-torn Syria. She posted videos on X, talked about handing out water and croissants to refugees and food parcels. When she returned to the UK, she wrote a very moving piece in the New Statesman. She said βwe have to work with our European partners and create new, safe, and legal routes for refugees to get to Europe. We cannot abandon them to their fate, left as prey for smugglers whilst risking death on the seas.β She said βmaybe we can make ourselves feel better by saying no-one is making them get on the boats. And again, the Home Secretary is not entirely wrong when β¦
Dear Shabana,
Let's clear some things up around migration and remember we're talking about people's lives.
