Very timely screening of Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis (2007) @ FACT in Liverpool tonight. An autobiographical coming of age tale, it provides a rare insight into Iran, beyond the narrow western perspective we all know. A great watch.

If you want more stuff like this, there's a great YouTube channel that has a video for every year of US network TV from 1960 through to 1990, listing all the shows that never got to a second season - or were axed early. It's fascinating.

Last one: Virtual Murder, a UK series from 1992. Six episodes - a psychologist investigates strange, surreal, and occult mysteries. Created by the guy who wrote Barbarella! Also possibly the only series to have featured Jon Pertwee AND Sean Pertwee (albeit in separate episodes).

Super Force from 1990. This one actually ran for two full seasons, but I've never met anyone else who remembers it. An astronaut fights crime in the year 2020 thanks to a supersuit and high-tech motorbike - RoboCop plus Street Hawk, basically.
Loads of people remember that though, despite it only lasting a few episodes. Same for stuff like Automan and Street Hawk. They're not forgotten and are probably more widely seen today than they were when they aired.
I think it was pitched more towards the Highway to Heaven audience. The fantasy elements are extremely slim - it was mostly just short redemption story dramas.

Shadow Chasers from 1985. A sort of comedic precursor to The X-Files, with a sleazy American tabloid reporter (Dennis Dugan) and a stuffy British professor (Trevor Eve) investigating supernatural mysteries. 14 episodes made - only 10 of which aired on ABC.

Once A Hero from 1987. A fantasy comedy about a struggling comic artist whose character comes to life. Co-starred Robert Forster! Got pulled off-air after three episodes!

Another favourite: Time Express, a 1979 show in which Vincent Price has a time-traveling train that he uses to give people a second chance to rewrite their destiny. Only ran for four episodes.
