if it wasn't a world-destroying atrocity it would be kind of funny how much time and money and energy is being put into convincing everyone to love AI and still the general consensus is like "meh"

In this light, most post-apocalyptic stories are power fantasies. That we would have the power to survive an extinction event, that there would be anything left worth surviving for. Just shower thoughts. I guess I'm more worried about this war than the others before.

I've been thinking about the term "power fantasy" and how it's sometimes used as derogatory when describing works of fiction. I believe a lot more stories are "power fantasies" than we realize, fantasizing about the power to find love/hope/etc in very unlikely situations, for instance.

remember when that cronenberg movie 'existenz' came out and it seemed like a fun and silly conceit for there to be freedom fighters taking on corporate conglomerates in an attempt to protect consensus reality from an ocean of digital hallucination

The thing that convinced me to watch The Pitt wasn't the reviews or buzz, it was seeing ppl draw fanart. If artists are spending some of their precious,precious free time on fanart for a TV show you know it's good.

My take is that finding your style is like finding your favorite local restaurant. You ask for recommendations, try a few places, and eventually, you find one that you keep going back to.

It’s funny seeing AI companies screaming “SENTIENT! SENTIENT!” about their shitty bloatware every time they need their stock prices to go up, when we as a species have BARELY even begun to start unraveling what sentience and consciousness even are.

Every time one of these freaks goes "guys I think our AI just gained sentience?!" they're saying very clearly just how ok they are with slaves, how little moral consideration they give to other actual humans.

This is why they are, not coincidentally, all pedophiles and sex pests. Same mindset.
