My late father's view was similar. In 1940 as a child he witnessed the blitz in Southampton. In 1946 as a teenager he visited Hamburg "Not one brick sat upon another".
Britain, a trading nation, now has a vital choice to make about its priority trading partners:
- the EU, where agreements are made, kept, reciprocal, based on international norms, & enforced by a court
- the USA, where agreements are made, broken, changed & broken again at a whim, with no recourse
My father had a pair of shorts made of sail cloth that dated from his National Service in the late 40's. He was still gardening in them into the 21st Century
