News here in the UK is that Semaglutide (the GLP-1 agonist in Ozempic™) comes out of patent next year almost everywhere. Indian and South African pharma cos expect to manufacture injectables (generic Ozempic clones) for about $4 per month's worth, or a bit more for the pill.

Hence the massive push.

INB4 the 46.7% of BlueSky users who lack a sense of humour "well actually" me on the use of 'Boomer' there.

I'm talking about the birth boom that happened after the liberalising economic laws of 1846.

IN YOUR FUCKING FACES, PUNKS.

moved my email provider from Gmail to Fastmail and I gotta say, it feels like taking a nice warm shower. FEELS GOOD. (I'd been meaning to for a while, but Google ending POP3 importing gave me the push to say bye for real.)

Email is still ryan@qwantz.com, you won't notice anything different!

Nuclear-capable jet bombers are *not* cheap to operate: in today's terms, think of it as costing £500,000 to move two hours' of video from the UK to AUS within 48 hours.

Back in 1961 we didn't have fibre-optic data cables. So undersea trunking couldn't really carry live video.

(explaining the news to a furry) ok so nukes are actually a closed species and anytime someone else tries to make one the creator gets into some really messy drama

(Beartato and Reginald, in a museum, gaze upon the Mona Lisa)

BEARTATO: There it is. The Mona Lisa. The most famous painting in history.
REGINALD: Wow! What's it do?

BEARTATO: It... what?
REGINALD: Why's it famous? What's it do?

(Beartato thinks.)

BEARTATO: I don't know.

REGINALD (to nearly museum employee): Excuse me! Sir? What's it do?

EMPLOYEE: You're the first person to ask! Watch this!

(The employee yanks a pull-string. Mona Lisa's eyes spin around and her mouth opens like a puppet)
MONA LISA: Honk honk! Honk honk!

(Everyone is delighted. This is true art.)

We don’t want cost to be a blocker to attend TokioConf.

If you build with Tokio, we want you there.

For every full-price ticket purchased before the end of March, we’ll add another Community Access ticket so someone else in the community can attend.

Stock market tanking again today and oil *way* up. What's crazy is Trump could've just rode out the current regression to the mean on inflation, combined with an apparent productivity boom. Instead, did the opposite of econ 101: kicked out workers, reduced immigration, started wars of choice.

I just wanna brag that I needed to scratch my neck, but I was writing an email, so I did it with my right hand while typing the word "secret". That's typed entirely with the left hand, so I didn't even break my stride. It was INCREDIBLY smooth. Please remember that I am extremely cool (also itchy)

We REALLY need the AI bubble to burst so OpenAI/Anthropic/Google have to start charging users a realistic price per query (which would nuke the spam problem *real* fast: spam only ever works in an ecosystem when the marginal cost to the spammer is nearly zero).

Beyond Citadel on Steam Beyond Citadel is an anime style retro throwback shooter inspired by the classics of the 90's, with realistic gunplay mechanics, anime violence and fast paced combat. Fight your way through the heavil...

In my piece on it for PCG, I described Beyond Citadel as an FPS for perverts. The kind that want to be able to hold back the bolt on a sniper rifle and manually load in ammo, bypasing the magazine, and the kind curious what those very same .50 caliber rounds can do to barely-clad anime girl-flesh.

not only did haskell and rust release their survey results at the same time, they're also almost exactly the same amount of gay (10.59% vs 10.66%)

(which is the important stat obviously)

We have enough worries in this world already.

Consider: if sin literally has mass, and “the weight of sin” isn’t simply a metaphor, how much could the average sin mass in electron volts before Christ taking all the sins of the world upon Himself creates a black hole?

PS: Worth calibrating on-- I was recently reading a book largely in defense of human art, which noted that caring about the human vs machine provenance of creation matters a lot more to people over 40 than people under 20. May change, but of course the change could go either way.

the fact that most American workers live in such precarity that they can’t afford to travel to other parts of the world and see how other people live is not a coincidence - it is part of this country’s very design.
