Me stopping to listen to the extensive Benito Santiago discussion on the broadcast
In his native Venezuela, DΓaz set the single-season home run record in 1978β80 with 20. The record lasted until Alex Cabrera broke it by one in 2013β14.
You know who Iβve developed a much bigger appreciation for? Baudillo Diaz. I havenβt done his bio yet, but itβs coming up and Iβm excited to tackle it.
Itβs always Todd. π
A great third baseman is just so aesthetically pleasing. Something about that position just draws me in. Catchers and third basemen. So many of my favorite players come from those positions.
These are rosters as if the WBC was taking part in 1947. Despite what Buck OβNeil thought, Julio still wasnβt born yet. π
I meant to post this last night during the Mexico game, but I guess I was too distracted by the longballs. An interesting teamβvery good rotation, a couple huge bats in Castro, Γvila, and Torres. A 4,000-hit man coming off the bench to pinch hit is a nice touch.

Iβm still not sure how to process the news that Julian Brandt will not be returning to Borussia Dortmund next year. I guess everyone leaves eventually, including Marco Reus, but I donβt like it. Heβs still incredibly productive. _sigh_
G+A leaders for BVB since Brandtβs arrival, all comps.

Iβm only able to follow from a text feed right now and supposed to believe that Shohei Ohtani was up with the bases loaded and two outs and the dude on second getsβ¦ give me a second hereβ¦ *picked off*????
This is literally cooler than anything I've seen in any baseball movie

Thank you to Thomas Van Hyning for helping me figure out the middle infield. Those guys are not in the PR HOF yet.
Really strong team, this one. An incredible outfield and pitching staff. The rotation could go another 4-deep with Ceferino Conde, Pantalones Santiago, and young RubΓ©n GΓ³mez and Luis Arroyo. Perucho was still in the league at this point, but past his prime. VΓc Power was just starting.

He joined Santurce in the 1962 Interamerican Series as a reinforcement player. The IAS briefly replaced the Caribbean Series after the Cuban Revolution. How good were these events? De la Hoz led the tourney with four home runs. The last was hit off Luis Tiant. Santurce's starter? Bob Gibson.
Miguel de la Hoz with the Senadores de San Juan
I thought Miguel βMikeβ de la Hoz would be a quick bio entry, but I keep finding cool stuff. Despite his short career, he played winters in Cuba, PR, DR, and Venezuela. He won the batting title with San Juan in PR in 1961β62 (.354, 8 HR, 50 RBI).
