Luis Aponte* vibes.
*Yes, I use every chance I get to name-drop Luis Aponte. bsky.app/profile/adar...
is that good that seems good
Ha, I love a home and away platoon.
I just learned that Jorge de la Rosa was 53–20 in Coors Field and that’s just something I need to share.
Another cool thing: He represented all six Puerto Rican teams in the Caribbean Series.
Working on the bio for Luis “Mambo” de León while I watch the game. A couple amazing stats—25 seasons in the Puerto Rican League (2nd to Rubén Gómez) and 12 Caribbean Series (most for a pitcher).
Rico Garcia, his replacement, also with a cool quirk with all his 2025 teams.

I guess it depends on your criteria. Like here's most career PA by a player with at least 5% of their games at pitcher. There are some pitcher-only guys mixed in, but you see a lot of guys who did both in there. www.sports-reference.com/stathead/tin...
Monzant’s 66 wins in Venezuela rank 11th all time despite pitching just ten seasons. The ten pitchers ahead of him—and the 17 behind him—all pitched more seasons.

Ramón Monzant arrived today. The second Venezuelan pitcher in the majors, he’s in his country’s Hall of Fame. While he was just 16–21 with a 4.38 ERA in the majors, he excelled in Venezuela (63–44, 2.91) and the US Minors (61–25, 3.16).
So @vonspalding.bsky.social had Japhet Amador at 496 home runs entering the winter season. He hit three more. But Von also found a minor league playoff home run from 2013 in the US. So that means 500 professional home runs for the big dude. 😍
I think this may have been the first Audiotree session I ever saw. I return to it often. “Threads” by Now, Now is a masterpiece and it is perfectly captured live here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dasT...
He may not have been the best player but god dammit he was the coolest
Me stopping to listen to the extensive Benito Santiago discussion on the broadcast
In his native Venezuela, Díaz set the single-season home run record in 1978–80 with 20. The record lasted until Alex Cabrera broke it by one in 2013–14.
You know who I’ve developed a much bigger appreciation for? Baudillo Diaz. I haven’t done his bio yet, but it’s coming up and I’m excited to tackle it.
It’s always Todd. 😍
A great third baseman is just so aesthetically pleasing. Something about that position just draws me in. Catchers and third basemen. So many of my favorite players come from those positions.
These are rosters as if the WBC was taking part in 1947. Despite what Buck O’Neil thought, Julio still wasn’t born yet. 😅
I meant to post this last night during the Mexico game, but I guess I was too distracted by the longballs. An interesting team—very good rotation, a couple huge bats in Castro, Ávila, and Torres. A 4,000-hit man coming off the bench to pinch hit is a nice touch.

Welcome to bsky, Global Leaderboards Savant Von Spalding! 🎉
I’m still not sure how to process the news that Julian Brandt will not be returning to Borussia Dortmund next year. I guess everyone leaves eventually, including Marco Reus, but I don’t like it. He’s still incredibly productive. _sigh_
G+A leaders for BVB since Brandt’s arrival, all comps.
My >.300 AVG and <3.00 ERA guys
Dammit “and Jack Daugherty” would have landed the rhyme and totally happened
