so much of the game modding experience is trying to figure out the hidden thread, the secret logic, behind vanilla art assets (so you can make yours match) only to gradually realize that everything was inconsistent, sloppy, done by their own two hands. because they had deadlines (and you dont)

valve is so good at cutscenes even the elevator rides are part of the worldbuilding

The biggest killer for immersion for these kinds of projects is when its obvious everything is a elaborate setup for spooks. There was more thought about the spooks than the actual game its supposed to be centered around, the game might as well not exist

"WebP compresses better, don't you want the internet to be fast!?" yeah i do maybe we could work on not embedding twenty megabytes of trackers and other bullshit JavaScript so your page runs without adblocking most of it first. no? then fuck webp. that's my opinion
