Why a judge shut down Trump's latest budget stunt A president can’t sign something into law and then immediately ignore parts of it. But that’s exactly what Trump is doing.

President Trump is attempting to get away with the biggest, most illegal budgetary ploy in U.S. history. CAP's @bbkogan.bsky.social explains in @MSNBC.com:

Stop silencing survivors in order to make perpetrators more comfortable.

I can't believe I need to have an AI policy! I made it pretty short though: Using AI is cheating, yourself mostly. In addition to the environmental blight created by AI, it makes no sense to use it in your intellectual and creative work. Why would you outsource your innate intelligence?

As the Trump administration ramps up its anti-immigrant campaign, activists like Ron Gochez of @UniondelBarrio are showing how to resist.

no surprised that brett ”almost certainly flunked his remedial classes” kavanaugh thinks the constitution authorizes a race-based federal β€œpapers please” regime. quick, someone ask him what he thinks of the fugitive slave act.

Pritzker: "No one in the administration -- the president or anybody under him -- has called anyone in my administration or me. It's clear that in secret they're are planning this invasion with US troops."

Dem electeds want influencers in media to say stuff like "I sure do approve of the job our wonderful Dem electeds are doing" when the thing Dems need influencers to actually say is like "the shitty economy is really shit right now huh"

My grandfather is 101. He was a doctor and researcher for generations. In his life he’s seen near-miracles of medical science come to fruition. To this day he reads Nature and Science and keeps up with the latest discoveries.

He tells me he is deeply worried about public health.

Majority Of Voters Oppose Deploying National Guard To D.C., Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Support Drops For U.S. Military Aid To Israel As 50% Think Israel Is Committing Genocide In G... "Posting the National Guard in D.C. to fight local crime gets faint support, with independent voters giving the deployment a big thumbs down," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

Trump now at 37% approve/55% disapprove. On July 16, was at 40%/54%.

Voters are gradually moving away from Trump. But elites continue to accommodate and acquiesce to him. So his authoritarian project marches ahead.

Online age verification is not like "showing ID to buy alcohol" because

a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked

b) you don't have to show ID to go to the library because they have cocktail recipe books

we see very clearly in public polling that people in california and D.C. hate the deployments and that americans broadly disapprove of them, but here we have an assertion that the smart strategy is to avoid any discussion of the situation in favor of a pivot to, you guessed it, kitchen table issues.

one question to ask the editorial board is whether there is a minimum bar for what constitutes "american democracy." if most people in most states are gerrymandered out of effective political representation, is that democracy?

it is genuinely maddening to see pundits and reporters say things like β€œwell trump has an advantage on crime” while the public consistently says β€œwe think this guy sucks on crime”

No one's asking Abigail Spanberger or anyone else to run on a single-issue trans rights ticket, and I don't think defending basic principles of equality and school safety is a Herculean task for anyone. But the dodges just invite further attacks and help push public opinion further right

In the recent past, I’ve visited DC, NYC, Detroit & several other great US urban areas. I’ve walked around with my fam & used public transport at night. I’ve never felt skittish & definitely haven’t packed heat (never owned a gun). These m*ga β€œmen” are not only liars, but insufferable wimps & losers

The constant shutdowns are really bad, but I do also think it's bad that, over & over, random things Google has run basically as public services because they were worth having around but couldn't make a profit have become so load-bearing

I've seen people say things like "our troops weren't designed to be used on US!!!" and look, I totally understand, I agree in some ways, but I really, really hope that if you feel that way you spend time thinking about the fact that there's no such thing as a weapon that can't be pointed at you.
