I love me a good knight book, I'll have to look into those! Right now I'm really enjoying @thebrambler13.bsky.social's Raven and Bear series, which is a really engaging yet relaxing take on a post-apocalyptic Wales where knights and heroes roam the land once more. Lovely stuff.

The quote reads: "'What do you think, Kala? Do I have a chance?' The skeleton cat simply looked at the necromancer before jumping from her shoulder and calmly walking over the snow. 'That’s gonna hurt my feelings, you know?' Marcela joked, but followed the cat."

Xyd may have a poor track record reading human sarcasm, but he's also very good (almost preternaturally so) at avoiding a lot of human faux pas. Who knows which side of him will win in this particular situation?
Also, megasnips for books is good. I also suggest calling trilogies "omegasnips"!
I'm gathering people's thoughts about mental health and speculative fiction through an online survey. I'd be very grateful if you could take 10 minutes to share your reflections on Inner Worlds and why it mattered to you, or on speculative fiction more broadly ❤️

“Now that,” Xyd said, “I believe wholeheartedly.” He turned half-around, so that one of his eyes faced her direction. Side-facing eyes, Yana thought—prey eyes. “I do not wish to be misunderstood. I think it’s a wondrous thing, the way your own unconscious mind protects you, cares for you—tries to, anyway. I shall do the same, and rein in my curiosity.” “Habitat.” “Hm?” “I come from a Space Station called Habitat. I was a researcher there—epidemiology.” “I have heard of Habitat,” Xyd said. “Is there much demand for epidemiologists there?” “No, but I had prior work experience.” “Homeworld?” “Yes,” Yana said. “Vara IX. Are you familiar?” “Wholly unfamiliar, I’m afraid.” “Look into it,” she said with a bitter smile. As always, summoning memories of that chapter in her life was torture—and yet, leaving Xyd guessing felt worse. “Full of anthropological lessons, that one.”
Post every single chapter heading, you say???

Event Horizon, First Light, Book 1 25.000 words New Adult Sci-fi Adventure, Space Opera Standalone but Serialized Inspired by Golden Age sci-fi and 90's Star Trek
EVENT HORIZON: THE SYNOPSIS The year is 2568, and humanity has spread itself thin and wide across the galaxy. Less than half a century has passed since the Paradigm Shift, the cataclysmic event that caused the collapse of all large-scale galactic governments--and left thousands of worlds to their own devices. In the ashes of these Empires, the unexpected happened: Humanity rebuilt, and it rebuilt better. It is now 50 years into humanity's Golden Age. A refugee named Yana finds her new, post-scarcity home just as asphyxiating as the ruins of her homeworld. Though all her needs are met, a deep discontentment still brews, despite all attempts to keep it at bay by focusing on her work as an epidemiologist, her pet amoeba, and a quickly crumbling social life. The situation changes when Yana is accidentally recruited into the Galaxy's foremost peacekeeping organization, and realizes it might hold the answers she seeks. Now, with her last shot at happiness on the line, she must either prove her worth to her new employers, or lose all her prospects--for good.
EVENT HORIZON: THE EXCERPTS "In the third deck of the Nomadic Exploration Volunteers’ scout ship Radiant, Yana sat in a waiting room and considered all the decisions that had led her to this point. The old vessel had been quick to work its strange magic on her. From the moment she stepped through the umbilical, a whole new world had welcomed her. A world of history—not the almost desperate remembrances of the Habitat’s Bellerophons and Devapalas and Anansis, not the things that were easy or empowering to remember, but real history, immediate history, written in dents and plasma burns and long sinuous scars in the fuselage. It reminded Yana of something she hadn’t seen in a long time—something she’d escaped, but had come to find herself missing, as if some part of her had craved the simplicity of hardship." "She was standing on a flat platform lined with street lights, floating, island-like, in the darkness; next to her were Rook, and Six, and no-one else. A pipe hung from the unseen ceiling and gently touched down, the now inert transport pod cradled by its curvature. All else was amorphous, suggested though air vibrations and distant, echoing screeches. Storage, the voice had said. Yana knew what the word truly meant. Every station, sooner or later, developed such places. They were the bowels of their artificial worlds, the layers between Layers, the unlit hollows where the extraneous and the unclaimed gathered out of sight and mind."

It is really weird to me when people don’t like reading and books.
I get not having enough time to read. I get wanting to read more, but there are just too many distractions around you. Obviously, I get having disabilities that make it difficult to read.
But just not liking books? Who are you?

The typewriter has a paper sticking out of it with black text reading “queer book submissions open” and a black line underneath it. At the top of the graphic is the Rainbow Crate and Rainbow After Dark logos. Under the logos it reads “Calling all authors!” in white text with a black outline. Under this it says “Submit your book for consideration in RC or RAD through the link in our bio or on our website!” in gray text with a black outline.

I wrote one of these just yesterday! It's genuine, I think--it's complicated, and I'm pretty sure Yana doesn't know either.

Before she could begin her train of thought, let alone continue it, the infirmary doors opened, revealing a towering silhouette beyond. “The kind Artificial told me you’d be here, Captain. Do I intrude?” Yana froze. The same succession of clicks and clacks and chirps that mere hours before held no meaning whatsoever to her, now sounded crisp and clear in her mind. Tel-Ti-Xyd’s voice was earthy and low, tinged with a breeze of excitement. “Looks like he’s up already, Captain!” Rook exclaimed. Yana could only nod flatly. “Yes.” “Machinist Diodorus was able to fit me with an external linguistic implant,” he said, tilting his head to show the metallic plate, fastened tightly to his skull where once a scar had been. “To replace my previous one. He is quite skilled. Regrillian, is he not?” “I think so,” Yana said. “Oh, I should, uh, we should introduce ourselves. I’m Yana, I’m the captain of this ship. And this here is Rook, my security officer.” The alien extended a hand, as before, and Rook hurried to shake it. “Adrian Rook,” they said. “Wonderful, wonderful!” He turned to Yana. “And yours?” “Excuse me?” “Family name? As is custom for many human cultures?” “No family name. Just Yana.”

In some sci-fi settings, you get magical translation devices. In First Light, you get those, but also sometimes you get a linguistics implant drilled into the side of your skull and attached directly to your brain analogue.

Quite unlikely! They are very invested in being a respected and active part of the galactic community. As much as they love a good fight, they are happy to stand on alert to protect their allies, rather than pursue imperialistic ambitions.
Really, preordering Event Horizon is an investment, when you think about it.
Recklessly pursuing industry and profit in a way that destroys the planet? That's how you know this is fiction--people in real life would be way smarter than that!

These are the same entities that are pushing hard for synthetic replacements for the Blood.
There are certain groups that seek to have the system fully abolished, but they have historically been in the minority. In recent years, though, they have been growing, both due to the difficulties this creates in engaging with the less open-minded among the galactic community, and--

The process consumes Spike fuel, the raw materials for which are abundant in New Garden's crust and upper mantle. The product is refined and made available to the Ka'Tur, who have free access to this usually valuable resource.
Of course, the raw materials needed to synthesize Spike fuel--
