Myers organized the film project and directed “Confrontation at Kent State” to explore views of what happened on May 4, 1970 and local responses to the massacre. Filmed in seven days with students working cameras and microphones, they asked a simple question to passersby in downtown Kent, Ohio: “Do you think that the shooting of students at Kent was justified?” Confrontation at Kent State was created by eight individuals. At the time the film was made their positions were as follows: Richard Myers, faculty member (Kent State University Art department); Patricia Myers, local real estate agent; Carla Ruff, graduate student (KSU English department); Jake Leed, faculty member (KSU English department); Mary Leed, student (University of Akron, Law); Robert Ohlrich, resident of Kent (KSU graduate); Michael Tarr, student (KSU); and James M. Someroski, faculty member (KSU Art department). About Richard Myers: Richard Myers is an experimental filmmaker based in Kent, Ohio. He holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Master of Arts degree from Kent State University (1959 and 1961, respectively). Myers began making films in the early 1960s. Most of his films are based on dreams and autobiographical information. He is especially known for his 1970 film Confrontation at Kent State, which was filmed during the week following the May 4, 1970 Kent State Shootings. Myers is an Emeritus Professor of Kent State University’s School of Art, where he taught film production classes from 1964 to 1991. About “Allison” Allison is composed of Allison Krause footage from her time at Kent State collected by Richard Myers. Arthur S. Krause, father of Allison, narrates reading his October 1970 letter to President Richard Nixon and the poem “Song of Allison” written by Peter Davies.
