As MPs debate the Courts Bill and the restriction of jury trials again today, I'm reminded of this bombshell statement from the Minister in the last debate...
The Courts Minister admitted it wasn't about backlogs - but ideology.

Rest assured, I'll keep looking for opportunities to raise this and have already written to the Government and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
I've also been pleased to see the Energy Secretary confirm he is working with the CMA to address 'price gouging'.

I know, particularly from my time working in the Energy Department around the time of the energy crisis in 2022, how important support is for people in park homes, canal boats, as well as those off-grid and on heating oil.
3/4
There were so many MPs who also wanted to raise issues that, unfortunately, I was timed out.
No support package was announced, however it was confirmed that the 5p fuel duty increase will still go ahead at the end of this year.

Constituents have written to me about the sudden increase in the cost of heating oil, for example from 55p per litre to 132p, with minimum order quantities also increasing from 500 litres to 900 litres!
Yesterday the Chancellor came to the Commons to talk about the rising energy costs.

Many people have contacted me with their concerns regarding the increased cost of heating oil.
With typical minimum order quantities of 500L and reports of prices doubling, people have faced sudden price rises of several hundred pounds simply to keep their homes warm.
2/2
I've signed a joint letter, alongside the Shadow Energy Secretary and Shadow Secretary of State for Rural Affairs, calling on the Competition and Markets Authority to launch an urgent investigation into the heating oil supply market π

I will continue to press the Home Office and Serco to answer questions on how HMOs are being used, and why our concerns are being ignored.
Our communityβs voice will be heard.

These concerns are shared not only by residents and me, but also by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
Today, I secured a meeting with the Immigration Minister to raise the issue of migrants being moved from hotels into the community.
2/3
Many people have raised concerns with me about the number of homes being converted into HMOs in our area, particularly Hinckley.
As I posted a couple of weeks ago, I have already taken these concerns to the Home Office and both councils.

Well done to everyone at North Warwickshire & South Leicestershire College and MIRA who continue to make our area one of the very best for developing the future of the UK's automotive sector!

This honour, awarded every two years, is a well-deserved recognition of the opportunities the MIRA Technology Institute provides to local students, apprentices, and people looking to reskill.

A pleasure to join some of the team from NWSLC last night to celebrate their fantastic achievement of a Queen Elizabeth Prize for Education for their partnership with HORIBA MIRA and the MIRA Technology Institute π

Good to take part in a roundtable today with The New Statesman about how technology can transform healthcare.
Iβve been calling for changes which would help improve life for staff and patients - today was an opportunity to continue the discussion around these opportunities.
E.g. with the likes of social prescribing.
A huge well done to all involved and thank you for inviting me down!

A new collaboration themselves, working to bring together small businesses and practitioners in the health and well being space.
It was great to speak about the role of small businesses in this challenging climate, but also how healthcare can be more joined up in Primary Care

Yesterday was a lovely opportunity to meet a number of small businesses involved in the wellness space across Leicestershire at the launch of TLC Wellness Collective at The Yoga Loft Burbage.

And what's concerning is we know from surveys that over 41% of sixth form boys and girls have been taught, in school lessons, that boys are a problem for society.
I spoke of my concerns about what happens if we don't have positive role models π
2/2
This week, during my debate on a Minister for Men and Boys, I raised the question of 'what is a good man?'
Society seems to label men too easily as 'toxic'.
1/2
In my debate yesterday on having a Minister for Men and Boys, I raised concerns around what society sees as the definition of a 'good man'.
Try asking boys and young men who their role models are...
I'm always surprised that many don't have an answer.
Ahead of my Westminster Hall debate on Wednesday (2:30 - 4pm), I joined the 'Next Week in Westminster' podcast to discuss my call for a Minister for Men and Boys ποΈ

Do you think we should have a Minister for Men and Boys?
I called for one in PMQs in December, and have secured a Westminster Hall debate on it next week (Wednesday 25th Feb, 2:30 - 4 pm).
As I said in my PMQ, this isn't about one 'or' the other.
It's about women 'and' men.
There is still Β£2.7m earmarked for a new facility; this funding must be spent on Hinckley, and I will do all I can to ensure this happens.
2/2
It is as we feared. The NHS has cancelled the Hinckley Day Case Unit.
I have called for an emergency summit of all NHS and Council leaders to sit down to work out what happens next.
1/2
In the NHS papers, it says "In the interim, the Β£2.7m allocated to the scheme will be used to develop the site." Therefore, I will continue to do all I can to secure better healthcare for Hinckley and the surrounding areas.
As always, I'll update you when I know more!
𧡠/ end.
We have had huge success with the Β£24m Community Diagnostic Centre that is now open.
This is certainly a big setback, but by no means a defeat for our community!
I raised this in the Commons today and have already written to the Health Secretary. But make no mistake, the Council and the NHS have a lot to answer for.
Should the decision be made this month to cancel the project, I'll continue to hold both to account & look for solutions.
Now, with extra costs due to delays, Labour's constraints on NHS capital spending, changes to priorities, and an updated assessment of services in Leicestershire, the Day Case Unit looks likely to be canned.
I made it clear at the time that this put the project in serious jeopardy, as we need a hospital not a museum. As the papers confirm, it is no longer in use and stands derelict.
I was not sighted on, nor informed of, the sending of such a letter, and criticised this intervention so late in the process.
