On 12 May 2022, Deborah Samuel , was stoned & burnt to d£ath by a mob of Muslim students in Sokoto, Nigeria, after being accused of blasphemy against Islam. One of her attackers was caught on tap admitting he set her on fire. Till date he has not been arrested and is walking free

I take it the research student only wanted to give credit to whom credit was due 😁

It's shocking that thesame moves are being taken today... It's unfortunate that leadership in Nigeria is nothing more than a "glory stools" - no innovation, no thinking outside d box, nothing but constant bull cos they can. Sad

Well, their running for office in the first instance wasn't about Nigeria. So, they indulge, with no feelings of guilt or apprehension. Afterall, there will not be any useful, actionable reaction from the citizenry anyway. Sad

Our choice of Buhari as our leader was influenced by our emotions and tribalism. Now, we have to endure another four years of poor governance that may involve more corruption and looting. Unfortunately, it seems that we are not willing to learn from our mistakes.

And now back to preparing for first day in my grad course "Machine Learning for Science and Society" where I try to teach how ML does not have to be in conflict respecting humans and where we will use tools designed for science collaboration not the LMS to communicate. #academicsky

It occurred to me that this gets at the core of why I hate learning management systems. Not "x is better than y" dislike, but "no university should buy this category of software" disgust.

The goal of an LMS is to make teaching and learning "scale." Scaling is the opposite of respecting humans.
