Her parents are suing under FIRA.
FIRA requires gun sellers to enforce procedures and safeguards to prevent the sale or distribution of a firearm to a person whom the seller has reasonable cause to believe is at substantial risk of using it to harm themselves or others.
In this case, during Washington’s mandatory waiting period for firearms purchases, parents allegedly called the retailer, told them their teen daughter was at risk of self-harm, and begged them not to transfer a gun to her. The gun store allegedly did so anyway, and she died by suicide.

This retailer is not only trying to shirk responsibility for their alleged actions, they’re also trying to take away gun safety protections from all Washingtonians, which would open the door for future tragedies like this one.”
We sought leave to file an amicus brief to defend the constitutionality of the state Firearms Industry Responsibility Act against a challenge by Precise Shooter, a Washington gun retailer.
