in my adventure into hypervisors, and proxmox. i learnt that despite the gui saying you assign "cores" to a VM, in hypervisor terms you assign "threads" i have an 8 core, 16 thread cpu and was assigning 8 "cores" to my vm and wondering why my cpu was maxing out...

been using linux as of late because windows just sucks, and its amazing how user friendly linux is these days. throw in GE version of proton and you're golden. I has hesitent due to game pass not supported on linux.. but I have two xbox's at home so it was silly not to switch, linux5ever now

someone responded to my pc issue post, provided some help, i was like thank you so much, but i figured out a solution so i'll stick with that.. and I think they blocked me over it?? lmao
tbh this machine is going to be turned into a proxmox server at some point, and for now removing all USBs stops the restarts so I can live with that and using a thin client to remote into it. appreciate the help though!

so.. either some or all of my USB ports on my motherboard are casuing my CPU core to crash. If I remove all USBs and just remote to my PC via moonlight it doesnt do its random resets...
How the fuck am I gonna live without a pc?? Ive never been without a PC since I was like 8.. no joke. That’s 25 years.
My PC is dead.. it locks up and restarts randomly, when idle or under load. Extensive research tells me it’s a bad core on my CPU (common for 5800x’s) and I’m basically shit out of luck as there’s no fix apart from replacing. My pc is 4yrs old and I need a new one but have no money 😭😭
i managed to come to work in my slippers today...
spent the weekend trialing using a thin client (steamdeck) at home as my daily driver, and then remoting into my gaming pc via sunshine/moonlight to play stuff, and it was amazing. i want to get my server setup asap but i need to buy upgrades first D:

and the xbox app doesnt work on linux (no surprise) and i play most of my games through there these days from game pass ultimate, shit sucks
i really want to change my home machine from windows to linux.. cos windows is just ass, i use it all day at work and i dont wanna use it at home anymore.. but i'm mostly a gamer, and proton is good these days, but has issues with games w/ anticheat.. hmmmm
still cant get over how good xcloud streaming is on the steam deck, sat in bed playing avowed last night like it was installed locally.
