Yep. I moved to Affinity years ago as well and have not felt the need to return to Adobe. I live in Designer & Publisher. I took the new Affinity for a spin though and it can't open InDesign files (Publisher can) plus a couple other glitches so I will be sticking with their V2 for a while.

The cover of a graphic novel called Passing in the Night. In the centre of the image, a flying lizard lady - Gloria - hovers in the air, holding onto her partner, Ruth. In the background, the city skyline is lit gently by a rising moon. At the bottom are the names of author Meghan Kemp-Gee, artist Lane Lloyd, and letterer Megan Praz
We're hosting a pre-launch party for our newest book! If you're in Vancouver, come meet author Meghan Kemp-Gee at @crossandcrowsbooks.bsky.social on February 10 at 6pm. Snacks, non-alc drinks, and an exclusive comic preview of the book. RSVP here: www.crossandcrows.com/events/44904...
Articles that more deeply make observations about the way we live our daily lives and offer more global perspectives used to come across my feeds all the time, but not so much now. Anyway, I feel like Iβve been thinking more these days and this newsletter has played a part in sparking that.
I had started to believe that because I had moved into a new season of my life with a more defined career and parenting commitments that I just didnβt have the time to reflect and think deeply about stuff. I am now realizing that it wasnβt about lack of time but instead a lack of inspiration.
So a while ago one of my fonts was featured in this newsletter so I checked it out. Long story short, itβs thoughtful observations like this that remind me of the old internet and take me back to a time where I had more real thoughts and conversations.
Thatβs so special! I have a toy chest made by my grandfather that has similar weight (and is now filled with my own kids stuffed animals). Making something that can last into the generations after yours feels good.
Typefaces may not physically weigh much (at least not since the days of metal type) but putting in the time and effort to shape them makes them feel heavy, substantial. The bigger the character set, the more robust the family of styles, the heavier it feels and the more satisfying it is to make.
Ooof. Feeling this article hard. βHeavy projects are the lifeblood of creative fulfillment β and creative longevity.β www.workingtheorys.com/p/make-somet...
A screenshot from Animal Crossing New Horizons. The players character is standing in front of a hose and the surrounding ground and trees are covered in snow.
Happy day that snow gets added to a bunch of video games day!
5 minute dungeon! When we play with the kids we make it a bit easier by adding a few more minutes, or leaving out the timer entirely

π₯° Iβm so glad you are enjoying Avona Serif! Thanks for also mention the straightforward licensing and affordable pricing, I think we need more of that in the type industry! Your support means a lot!!!
Great stuff happening in the latest @glyphsapp.com release! Also, I love how entertaining the release notes are π, so many little gems like "...And if you understood what this means, you are probably that guy who created and sent us that edge case in the first place." glyphsapp.com/news/glyphs-...
For my Vancouver followers, Iβll be speaking at Type Brigade No58 on Oct 16th! Also, if you are not in Vancouver, youβll be able to catch the recording after! www.meetup.com/typebrigade/ Registration for this event is free! Come hang out and learn more about letters!
Also, how gorgeous are these shapes and color palette!? This game is pretty!!!!
I am so happy about this! As a type designer, sometimes while drawing a more obscure character like a dagger we really wonder if anyone will ever find it and use it. Seeing it exist like this means it was worth making β₯οΈ
I feel like this chart applies to discourse about most things (not just limited to discussions around AI)βitβs a good reminder to think about how you are discussing things with folks around you.
Good new name for a good type foundry: @arcanetype.com www.arcanetype.com/articles/arc...
I'm using their Avona Serif, perhaps my favourite typeface, in my upcoming game. www.arcanetype.com/fonts/avona-...
New look! This name change is coinciding with the foundryβs 5th birthday and to celebrate, I thought I would confuse everyone about my identity (I joke, I joke). Moving forward, we will be called Arcane Type Foundry and we believe fonts are magic!
And for the A type folks, organized beads! π¬
Hahaha! Everyone loves Derpy so much, especially my kids π and Totoro is a classic!
It most definitely is! I modified a cross stitch pattern I found β€οΈ
Been making a lot of melty beads (or fuse beads, perler beads, Hama beads). I am getting better at ironing them evenly π
Two o characters in a handwritten style with an underscore between them so they look a bit like an unimpressed face.
Sometimes you are just happily working on a typeface and it looks at you funny.
The mirror of a blue car is in the center of the frame. The mirror is broken but a hand-held mirror with βQuoβ written on it is taped to the car mirror by the handle.
Points for creativity!
Sometimes other people make cool things and I wonder why I didnβt make a similar cool thing that I had an idea for but havenβt got around to it yet. Then I realize they are a team of 12 people and I am just me.
Wish I could do that βmirror imageβ spell and my copies could all work for me.
