Louisville and Lexington players paused the USL Championship season opener for 60 seconds after kickoff, letting the clock run without play. A fearless show of unity from the USL Players Association as negotiations reach a critical stage. Itβs time for the league to act. #StandUpForStandards
Come for the deeply researched analysis. Stay for the flowery prose.

Somewhat impossibly, these get better every year.
(Probably because I have nothing to do with them anymore.)
There is a lovely symbiosis between @backheeled.com @mattdoyle.bsky.social's Tactics Free Zone, ASA, and the individual team blogs like @sounderatheart.com and @burgundywave.bsky.social going on that feels very fun in an age when the league and media have decided on no real MLS coverage.
Every year the MLS punditerati are asked to pick their MLS standings, every year they get smoked. @paulharvey.theoutfield.nyc decided to look into who is the best prognosticator, and who deserves the hatemail.

A lot of the ASA-erati attended the @americansoccerinsights.com summit at Rice University last week, and people wanted to talk about their experience.
So we convened the ASA roundtable for highlights.

Last week, I posted a small survey that looked at FBref alternatives in an attempt to assess what resources remain for womenβs soccer fans. For @theixsports.bsky.social, I expanded that survey, and the results are grim. Hereβs what that means for the future of woso data and coverage:

Congrats, Jeff!
This is awful news.
I, like many others, got started down this whole path using FBRef data.
Itβs wrongheaded - free data builds a pool of smart people who will eventually become customers of data. Informed fans demand intelligent clubs. Intelligent clubs pay for data.
At Sports Reference we have taken great pride in the role FBref has played over the last seven years as an expansive source for soccer fans all over the world. Unfortunately, last week the provider of our advanced soccer data sent us a letter terminating our access to their data feeds and requiring the deletion of their data from the site immediately. As a result, we have removed the provider's data from FBref and Stathead in compliance with their demand. The data provider has asserted that our use of the data violated our agreement. Their demand came unexpectedly despite our long-standing and good-faith operation of FBref and Stathead. We have operated the sites in a consistent manner from their creation (well before the signing of this agreement) through today, and we have always welcomed open and frank discussions about how the sites operate. Any effort to retain access to this advanced data would have been costly and uncertain. Under the circumstances, we have decided to comply with the termination notice. This creates a significant gap in the stats offered on FBref and Stathead. We are heartbroken both for our users who have come to rely upon this product and for our team that has spent thousands of hours bringing these stats to life and supporting our users. We are especially upset by the massive step back this creates in access for women's advanced soccer data. Data Democratization is a core Sports Reference value and the removal of this data is a sad day for all of us. We will take time to assess possible paths forward. FBref will continue to present the deep historic basic data we have for over one hundred competitions, but if we present advanced data in the future it will certainly have a dramatically smaller scale.
Utterly disastrous news for public access to soccer data and statistics.

Another one to potentially add: Denmark is currently in Path D -> playing in Mexico against Mexico, South Korea, and South Africa. If they were to win the group, they stay in Mexico. Otherwise it'd be Seattle or Foxborough (Boston) - Which could be relevant if US invades Greenland.

Most recent World Cups have been controversial in their own way.
But in 2026, the United States will take its place alongside the most problematic hosts in the tournament's checkered history.

New ownership group has enough money to buy the team for $4.25 billion, but needs taxpayers to pay to renovate the stadium that team that plays in. Hmmm.
