Fortunately, the locally operated inland ferry got us over there in time to meet up with Johon and for us to make our meetings.

Getting back was tough too. Planes still weren’t flying, so we caught a water taxi back to Ketchikan - just in time for radio and newspaper interviews. Love Southeast!

In Southeast any given day the weather can change on you. We left Klawock yesterday as it snowed and with the moon still in sight. Bags got left in Klawock, but we were bound to get to our plane to Metlakatla. Icing had covered the wings of the float planes and it looked like we might not make it.

In my State of the Future in January, I laid out a plan for a forward-funding constitutional amendment to bring stability, restoring a defined benefit retirement so experienced educators can build lives here, investing in safe, habitable school buildings, and expanding voluntary Pre-K statewide.

Opinion: We were honored as Alaska Teachers of the Year. Now we can no longer stay. A broken retirement system, relentless vetoes and anti-public education rhetoric have pushed even the state’s most accomplished educators to walk away.

When we work side by side with fellow Alaskans and focus on the work, even when we disagree, we get things done.

That is how we lower energy costs, strengthen schools, and rebuild trust in government. We need leaders who put results above politics.

I’m humbled by the faith in my leadership and the momentum this poll underscores.

According to Lake Research Partners’ Feb. 5–11 poll, I am leading in both the primary and the general election for Alaska Governor. #AlaskaSky

I’m really encouraged by the polling numbers over the last few months — and again just last week.

But this election will come down to one simple thing: who shows up.
If we stick together and show up to vote, in the primary and in November, we can change the direction of Alaska.

As Governor, I will prioritize these issues: protecting our children, ending the trafficking of women and youth, and building healthier communities where families can thrive.

•Ramp up coordination + resources in cases involving missing, exploited, and murdered Indigenous women
•Ensure sexual predators are apprehended + dealt with firmly
•Pass Rep. Gray’s law to prohibit child marriage
•Tackle homelessness at its roots, knowing housing instability fuels vulnerability

In Alaska, these problems are real and ongoing. Indigenous women face disproportionate violence, missing persons cases remain unresolved, homeless youth and families are vulnerable, and loopholes like child marriage create pathways predators exploit.

There are concrete steps a Governor can take:

Recent headlines have once again reminded us of the unacceptable scourge of human trafficking and the exploitation of children and women in our society. From the Epstein files to our own backyard, these acts are unacceptable.
