after his death, at the reading of the will, the heirs of Vince Guaraldi were dismayed to find he'd left little behind. You see, he worked for Peanuts.

if you'd like to see a wide re-release of Hundreds of Beavers in theaters this year, one night only, in thousands of cities โ repost this. we've got some doubters.
Also part of the thought experiment just comes from the fact The Bear managed to produce 3 seasons between the gap of Severance's 2 seasons
I had that thought before the S2 finale. After seeing it all, it's now a tough choice for me - S2 really proved itself to me as an excellent show, but The Bear (mostly S1/2) has been incredible TV too. If they can course correct in S4 it might still be on top for me.
SINNERS is the best movie I've seen this year so far. Can't recommend it highly enough - go see it
An absolutely wild thought I had while watching the new Severance episode tonight:
Would you take 3 seasons of The Bear over 1 season of Severance?
North By Northwest? Way funnier than I expected. Top 10 final shot in cinema.
Dead Calm? They don't make nautical thrillers like that anymore. Crazy tense.
Tonight I accidentally did a double-feature of films involving compass directions with NORTH BY NORTHWEST and DEAD CALM.
i swear to god this luka-AD trade news is some kind of deflection tactic from all the rotten shit happening in the US
cowabunga dude
had the luck of seeing this at TIFF's midnight madness. you could feel everyone's collective tension the entire screening
I was supposed to be productive today, but I didn't realize I was on fool time.
Kubrick walked so that this local TV director could run
ADDENDUM:
It wasn't a 2024 release but I loved HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS and recommend you all watch it with as little info as possible.
Also just came back from a screening of THE BRUTALIST, which would have been an easy entry in my 2024 list of recommendations.
*HACF theme plays but it's church bells*
Juror No.3 where Julia Roberts is part of the heist now
Oh I guess one more thing I liked this year is TERMINUS finally came out to retail and is out to the public. It's been crazy to think about how long I've worked on it, the response it's gotten, and the thought that some random board game group is playing this and absolutely loves/hates it.
"Ok is there anything else you liked this year?" Getting confrontational so I'm gonna back away and leave you with one game I enjoyed...
BALATRO, Localthunk - It's all I've played but I'm hooked on this rogue-lite poker game and I can't stop. I wish I could make anything as elegant as this.
(6/6)
"Neat, do you have any albums you liked too?" Asking a lot of questions but ok. I enjoyed...
DIAMOND JUBILEE, Cindy Lee - Noise americana.
FROG IN BOILING WATER, DIIV - Shoegaze garage rock.
CHALLENGERS (Original Score), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - I wasn't kidding that this score slaps.
(5/?)
SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF (2023) - I didn't need another adaptation, so I'm happy to see this goes off into a new direction. Also the animation quality is aces. Worth it for that alone.
ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (S3) - The best, funniest network comedy right now. Looking forward to next season.
(4/?)
"That's cool, but how about TV shows?" Sure, well I enjoyed...
SLOW HORSES (S4) - This scratches the spy thriller itch I've had for years and it's SO good and pulpy.
SMARTYPANTS (S1, Dropout) - This scratches the powerpoint party/DIY video essay itch I've had for years and it's hilarious.
(3/?)
THE SUBSTANCE - The best (and only) TIFF movie I saw this year. Carrie with the clinical aesthetic of French horror.
LOVE LIES BLEEDING - Highly underrated. Queer desert neo-noir with bodybuilders.
CHALLENGERS - Remember this movie came out? Nine Inch Nails need to do more disco-soaked scores.
(2/?)
"What movies did you like this year?" Hey, thanks for asking. I enjoyed...
ANORA - Recommended if you want a funnier, less panic attack-inducing Uncut Gems/Good Time.
A REAL PAIN - Funny and contemplative character study buddy road trip.
REBEL RIDGE - What if gun deescalation was exciting???
(1/?)
it's not a phase dad
This ~ ๐ฏ%
i think that everyone who plays or watches sports should be sent to prison
The old dads will probably include some combo of Sinatra - My Way, Tom Jones - Sex Bomb, Beatles - Yesterday or Cat Stevens - Father and Son
Letterboxd for Filipinos but instead of movies its their four favourite karaoke songs
Like many of you, I've been looking to things that bring me joy. This quote from Uncle Iroh feels particularly relevant.
โYou must never give in to despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself.โ
This year for Halloween, my costume will be the Eglinton LRT.
(I won't be showing up, and I won't be explaining why.)
