Among women turning 40 recently, Czech women have slightly higher rates of childlessness than Americans (both near 15%), while Japanese women are nearly twice as likely to be childless at 40 (near 30%).

Childlessness has skyrocketed in Japan, and risen sharply in post-Cold War Eastern Europe. It has started rising again in the US, but not as dramatically. #demography #fertility
