An observation: People’s politics shape how they imagine God a lot more than God shapes how people imagine politics.
A caveat: once people have shaped a god to fit their politics, they will talk about god a lot in their politics - this often hides the origin of their convictions
if someone reads the Bible looking for ways it can justify their evil, the words they need will be there - but only because they were in their heart first.
If your God gives you permission to bomb and kill your enemies, then he really sucks.
The Jesus of Christian Nationalism needs to get saved.
The Jesus of American evangelicalism, needs to repent and get saved.
I mean - it’s it’s miller lite - would 6 an hour really be hard?
I was just looking at it and like 🤷🏼♂️. Thats it? 24 beers might take me a bit depending on the ABV, but the rest would take me 2 hours.
We need to bench Doc.
He slurs so much. I wonder how many strokes he has a day.
Add this to the administration pushing forward to reclassify all disabilities within the VA.
You have the most anti veteran and anti service member administration in our nations history. Once again the push to send young Americans to war while ensuring the govt never pays out benefits. #Veterans
I understand why but I wish America was striving for an aspirational approach to immigration and global peace that inspired people’s better angels vs playing to lowest common denominator risk management.
I was a pastor at the time and I felt Jesus would have disagreed with both policies. I think it’s important to remain clear eyed about your favorite politicians
I think Obama, like many Americans, chose a pragmatic violent approach in both instances.
For what it’s worth - I specifically didn’t like Obama’s immigration crackdown nor his proliferation of drone violence. I voted for him in 08 (my first democrat vote ever) and was vocal during his Presidency about it.

Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

Never measure your happiness using a ruler made of the things you don't have.
I am slightly hopeful that some of the denial and anger we are seeing today is because of grief - which means the fracture has already happened - even if they don’t know it yet.
For most, when we wake up from our beautiful delusions, we face a deep grief at the loss of the world as we knew it - we experience all the stages of grief, especially denial and anger. We shoot a lot of messengers in the process of grieving our loss.
By default, we believe we are merely looking through the window and objectively describing the thing we see, but what we are actually describing is mostly our own reflection in the widow glass staring back at us.
The quote wedged itself into a tiny crack in my wall of certainty. As I came to realize that *truth* and *my perception of it* were different things, Anaïs gave me a mantra to guide my exploration.
Twenty-some years ago I picked a scrap of paper in a Starbucks parking lot. The paper was from a quote-a-day calendar:
“We don't see things as they are,
we see them as we are.”

The extent to which this administration personally targets and continues the assault on people who embarrass and shame it is particularly despicable.
Your maga friends think this is ok. Truly.
