First years don't lead protests bc they're new to the environment and the low ppl on the totem pole. Upperclassmen are influenced by the year or two above them who were leading when they were 1st and 2nd years. Change happens more quickly than comparable sized institutions but is not instant.
The Prairieland case has not gotten enough attention, and it's terrifying. These were a bunch of trans and queer lefties, many of whom didn't know each other before the protest, who went down to a protest and were deemed terrorists and put in jail and denied hrt and medications.
