A detailed black ink unfinished drawing. In the foreground is acorns and oak leaves, further back is part of a bird and my pen laid on the page
I like that my work takes a long time to create.
It feels a bit like steadily carving away at it, watching it slowly take shape. It’s almost meditative.
It’ll be a while before this one is finished and I have lots of other ideas I want to work on but it takes as long as it needs to.

People say genius can't be rushed but I think what isn't pointed out nearly enough is that non-genius also shouldn't be rushed. Non-geniuses are no less entitled to a personal quota of idle wandering, breaks to consume cake, staring blankly out a window and taking 11 days to reply to a text message.

A black T-shirt with a wood anemone illustration on the front hanging in a tree.
Beautiful wood anemones are starting to appear so I’m looking forward to seeing lots of these very soon.
They spread slowly and are a good indicator of ancient woodland.
There are also some in my little shop

The crooked spire of St Mary And All Saints Church, Chesterfield: a regular, formative sight in my childhood which probably a certain way towards explaining why I am the way I am.
Lots of varying folkloric explanations exist for the crooked spire on this church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. My favourite is that the Devil had a new horseshoe fitted to his hoof by a clumsy blacksmith who put a nail into his skin, causing him to leap up in pain and knock the spire out of place.

Another common canalside lichen here on Hawthorn and Blackthorn twigs in the towpath hedges is Xanthoria parietina (Sunburst Lichen). Also note the small grey Physcia with hairy cilia (probably adscendens). These like the nutrient rich agricultural fields here sprayed with ammonia rich cow slurry

Hello—here’s the official trailer for UNDERLAND, based on my book of the same name, dir. by Rob Petit, with a haunting, glittering score by @hannahpeel.bsky.social, & the ‘Storyteller’ voiced by Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest). Hope you like it.

The Butterbur are flowering along the canal now. Like the early Celandine and Primrose flowers they are a great source of nectar for bees when flowers are still scarce early in Spring. They flower before the huge leaves appear with their felt like upper surface.

Just sharing this again as this is currently the only social media I have (for now).
It isn’t easy getting anything noticed at the moment and it’s a colourful, spring-like little break from all of the bad news out there.
So if you’re feeling generous then please share the original post? 💚

Slowly getting things in place so that I can spend more time on art than admin as for a while now I feel more like an administrator who does art when I can squeeze it in.
It’s quite nice to be able to look at life and figure out, within certain constraints, how I’d like to live it.
